COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Welcome to the Counselor's Corner
At Fox Creek, we believe in caring for the mind and heart of every child by having caring expectations, considering the multifaceted needs of each child, and connecting personally & establishing rapport with every child.
What is the role of a School Counselor?
Counselors follow guidelines of ASCA (American School Counselor Association). We work in three main domains with students:
Personal/Social: working with students around skills to be successful citizens, coping skills around trauma/depression/anxiety/other struggles, peer conflict, grief and loss, concerns outside of school.
Post-secondary: getting students ready to complete state mandated ICAP (Individualized Career and Academic Planning) in grades 7-12. All grade levels answer three core questions: Who am I (interests and strengths)?, What are my options (post-secondary options in careers, college and the military)?, and How do I get there (what are the steps, goals and actions needed to meet my goals after graduation)?
Academic: supporting students being in the right classes to graduate, seeking supports for students to be able to succeed, identifying interventions and support plans to help students reach their goals.
Counselors also support students and their communities in many other ways; offering resources in the school and community for success, mental health support and family needs.
Safety is a big priority and we support students around thoughts of harm, suicide and harm to others.
I am always here for the students, parents and staff at Fox Creek!
