Our team is fairly new to the CVHS Library but we've committed to leveraging our strengths and passion areas to best serve the needs of our students, teachers, and greater school community through our library. Collectively, we have years of experience working with students and in educational settings. We're passionate about books, literacy, community, and empowering students to be their best selves.
The HESTL framework -- Highly Effective Schools Through Libraries -- has provided our team concrete goals, giving our various initiatives and projects purpose and direction. We are fortunate to have a supportive and engaged administration to partner with us in this rigorous work.
This website will serve the purpose of documenting our evidence as I work toward recognition for each of the HESTL components. Additionally, it will serve as documentation for our administrative team and evaluators about some of the various projects and initiatives we're taking on as a library team.
Our team works collaboratively and the evidence you'll see on this website is a reflection of our shared efforts. Abbi makes our library fun and beautiful, and Gillian makes our library organized and accessible. I strive to give credit to each of us for our projects, ideas, and efforts in the library.
Gretchen became CVHS's Teacher Librarian in August 2023. Before that, Gretchen was in the classroom as an English teacher for ten years. She's passionate about engaging students with contemporary literature and believes all students can -- and should -- be readers! Gretchen did her undergraduate degrees in English and Secondary Education at Creighton University, studying for a time at Creighton's Institute for Latin American Concern in the Dominican Republic. In 2018, she graduated with her Master's in Curriculum Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. Currently, she's working on her Digital Teacher Librarian Certificate through the University of Colorado Denver. When she's not reading or teaching, she's likely playing her cello, gardening, or practicing Spanish with her husband.

Gillian joined our library team in January 2024. She is one of our part-time Library Assistants at CVHS. Before coming to CVHS, Gillian worked in the Disabled Students Programs and Services at a California community college. She has an associates degree in Library Technologies, and recently earned her Master in Library and Information Sciences. She is our data-crunching queen and strengthens our team with her analytical eye and attention to detail and accessibility in our library resources. Gillian is an avid reader of fantasy, goes skiing every weekend, and has dual citizenship in Ireland!

Abbi began her work in the CVHS library in August 2023 and is our other part-time Library Assistant. She is our display-maker extraordinaire. We are constantly in awe of Abbi's creative displays highlighting books related to Taylor Swift, the Olympics, and "spooky season." Before working in our library, she worked for years in our CVHS counseling office. Abbi is a voracious reader and our resident romance and mystery reader. When she's not working at CVHS, she runs her business -- a small jewelry company where she names each piece after a literary character.

I anticipate that it will take several years for me to earn each of the HESTL credentials. This website will be updated as I document more evidence of my work in each of the component areas. This fall, my focus is on the Environmental component. You can see the Certified anticipated timeline below.
