12th Grade Timeline - senior Year

  • All Year

    • Continually check your email, Infinite Campus Student Portal, and Naviance pages.

    • Continue to take a rigorous course load including Dual Enrollment, IB, and AP courses.

    • Keep working on your grades.

    • Continue to participate in extracurricular and volunteer activities.

    • Use a planner, calendar, or other organizational tool to keep track of important dates, deadlines, and events.


  • First Semester

    • Complete your Senior Meeting before Fall Break.

    • If you are considering the military, make sure to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). You can schedule this exam with a local recruiter.

    • Give recommendation forms/requests for letters of recommendation to the teachers you have chosen and/or your counselor.

      1. Please provide at least 2 weeks’ notice prior to the application/letter being due.

      2. Include a list of your resume/goals/ambitions as well as instructions for how the letters are to be sent.

      3. Follow the instruction on Naviance and in your Senior Assignments to complete correctly.

    • Complete a transcript request form for the schools you are applying to AFTER you've applied.

    • Retake SAT if needed, or consider taking the ACT.

    • The high school does not send your standardized test scores, if needed go to CollegeBoard.org or ACT.org to send scores.

    • Consider applying for 4-6 schools (1-2 perfect fit schools, 1-2 back-up schools, and 1-2 reach schools).

      1. If you are applying Early Action/Early Decision most deadlines are Oct 15th, Nov 1st, or Nov 15th.

      2. If you are applying for regular admission, it is recommended to have applications submitted by Thanksgiving/Winter Break.

    • Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). These forms can be obtained online: FAFSA. These forms will be available October 1 of your senior year.

    • If you haven't already, turn in your minimum of 20+ Community Service/Service Learning hours to the Counseling Office


  • Winter

    • Check for announcements and with Counseling Office regarding scholarship opportunities

    • Complete any remaining applications and financial aid forms before winter break

    • Follow up to make sure that the colleges have received all application information, including recommendations and test scores

    • Keep working in your classes! Grades and courses continue to count throughout your senior year.


  • Spring

    • Watch your email between March 1 and April 1 for acceptance notifications from colleges- if not earlier!

    • Continue to apply for scholarships!

    • Watch your mail for notification of financial aid awards.

    • Compare the financial aid packages from the colleges and universities that have accepted you.

    • Make your final choice and notify all schools of your intent. If possible, do not decide without making at least one campus visit. Send your nonrefundable deposit to your chosen school by May 1 as well.

    • AP and IB Exams - April/May

    • Complete your Senior Survey! Final transcripts will automatically be sent to your chosen institution based on the information you provide in your senior survey. Please complete this survey carefully and accurately.

    • Complete follow-up paperwork for the college of your choice (scheduling, orientation session, housing arrangements, and other necessary forms).

    • Congratulations! You have made it through these past 4 years, now it’s time to look forward to graduation!
