Meet the Band

ABOUT THE ROCK CANYON BAND

The Rock Canyon High School Symphonic Band is the premier wind and percussion ensemble at RCHS, a select group of [primarily] tenth through twelfth graders that meet as a school-day class. The Symphonic Band is one of three year-round concert ensembles in the Rock Canyon Band Program. The Program serves over 100 students through many performing ensembles, including the extra-curricular Marching Band, concert bands, jazz band, chamber ensembles, winter color guard, percussion ensemble, and pit orchestra. The Rock Canyon Band Program is proud to work with students coming to us from Rocky Heights Middle School. The band has been under the direction of Zachary Fruits since 2017.

For all educational institutions, and especially bands, the past 2+ years have been devastating. Considering all the obstacles to our participation (masks, distancing, aerosol mitigation, reduced rehearsal time, hybrid/cohort scheduling, etc.) it's amazing that there is anything left of band programs. Making music together has been hard. Learning together has been hard. Simply coming to school has been hard. But through it all, the Rock Canyon Bands have become stronger, more dedicated, more willing to be vulnerable, and more invested in the music than ever. This is in credit to the heartfelt commitment to an open and inclusive culture, something we’ve worked meticulously to develop. There’s a place for every type of musician in the Rock Canyon Band Family. What we're most proud of is the fact that we are here together, making the most genuine music we’ve ever made.
