About Ms. Sprafke:
One March day, many years ago, a child was born. Fast-forward through a few decades in Colorado, a short stint in Iowa at Cornell College for a BA in English and Secondary Education and the start of my teaching career, a return to Colorado and the mountains for family and a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction, and voila! Here I am.
Today, you will find me sharing my love of reading and writing at Mountain Ridge. The 2023-2024 school year marks my 25th year teaching, and 20th as a RAM. I have taught 7th and 8th grade Language Arts for the span of my career, and was fortunate to add iLab for five of those, sparking my joy for problem solving and design. When I am not teaching, you may find me playing trombone with the Denver Concert Band, growing masses of veggies in my Swiss Mountain Dog-proof garden, or coaching Cross Country, Track, or Running Club with the amazing coaching staff at MRMS and MVHS.
I have a beautiful and energetic family. My husband just retired from teaching high school science in Aurora, and we enjoy laughing, cooking, biking, reading, music, and exploring. I am a proud stepmom of an aspiring firefighter, a senior at CSU, and a 2022 graduate of Oberlin College. I am fortunate to be a Colorado native, and my extended family surrounds me on all sides.
I am thrilled to be back with 8 Teal this year. Reading, writing, speaking, designing, creating and inspiring are my passions. I am excited for a year of adventures, challenges and insights. Reading and writing don't come easily to all, but I believe there is a book out there for everyone, and communication is a key that unlocks so many doors.
I promise to be the best teacher and mentor I can be, every minute of every day in the classroom, on the XC course, and on the track. Your children deserve the best--and we will do our best.
