Stay Up to date with 3rd Grade
Week of August 4 2024
Hi Families!
It has been a great first week of school! We have to say that all three of the 3rd grade teachers are very impressed with the maturity and focus that this group of 3rd graders have!
Each week, we will be sending out some information on what we are up to in the classroom so you can follow along. At the bottom, we will also put important reminders and dates if an event is coming up.
Crew - This week for crew all we have been doing is get to know you activities and going over classroom norms and routines for the year. We also had a whole 3rd grade crew to talk about the importance of working together as a grade as we will be switching classrooms from time to time.

Lake Titicaca frog from Peru
Blue Poison Dart Frogs
How do frogs survive and thrive in their habitat with their unique adaptation?
Our students are currently investigating this question using multiple research points. Students were assigned to a specific frog and began researching the frogs different adaptations that help it survive. The students met with different experts in the field to ask scientific questions about the frog to help their research. We then visited the Denver Zoo frog exhibit to get a chance to see the frogs in person and continue gathering information. With their research, students are working on an essay, a high quality scientific drawing of their frog and creating a book to share with the rest of the school.
Our Previous Expeditions
Water You Waiting For 2022 and 2023
Water You Waiting For? is an expedition created by our 3rd grade team in which students get hands on experience in what it means to create, market, and sell a product from conception to the hands of the consumer. Students start with a proposal to receive a loan to start their project. Students then use focus groups to choose which product to create where they interview classrooms and take surveys. After picking a final product, students work on designing a logo, marketing strategies, video production and picking the best times to sell the product. The funds are then used to purchase a new water bottle fountain for the school to help reduce plastic use. Check out our videos below to learn more about our expedition.
