To ensure the most objective decision takes place during new member selection, a point system is put in place to rate an individual candidate based on their completed application which demonstrates their own strengths in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship. The Faculty Council meets each year to discuss the selection process and make any amendments they see necessary for the upcoming selection process.
This 2021-2022 year due to unforeseen circumstances a new Chapter Advisor and Faculty Council were appointed in late February. The Faculty Council promptly assembled and met and revised the application process for the 2022 term. Which was approved by Principal Packard and reflected in the current Chapter By-Laws.
Students are invited to apply for membership into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) based on their cumulative average. Students must have a cumulative average of 90 or above the last 5 quarters in their Core subjects and a passing grade in all Unified Arts subjects.
Once a student is invited to apply for membership into the NJHS, an explanation of the selection procedure is then outlined to each student. They are then given the opportunity to take an application if they wish to do so.
An application consists of four parts:
Leadership Application Form, completed by the applicant
Citizenship Profile Form, completed by faculty who have interacted with the applicant
Personal Letter of Recommendation completed and enclosed with the application
Essay, completed by the applicant, MLA formatted highlighting their own qualities in outstanding scholarship, character, leadership service, and citizenship.
Must complete 10 community service hours
Any incomplete application will not be scored. An application is considered incomplete if any of the Leadership or Citizenship Profile Forms are not returned by the deadline or if the candidate’s application is not signed and dated by both the candidate themselves and their parent/guardian.
Completed applications are scored by the Faculty Council. All applications that fall at or above the designated number (predetermined by the Faculty Council) will be selected as a member of the NJHS.
The selection process begins after Term#1 grades are posted
NJHS is open to 7th and 8th Grade students only
