Reading- This year, we'll explore thrilling short stories that will keep you hooked, fascinating non-fiction that will keep you turning those pages, and poetry that might even inspire you to try writing some of your own. But that's not all! In our reading adventures, we'll tackle captivating novels like "Freak the Mighty", "The Giver", and "The Girl Who Drank the Moon." And remember, reading isn't just recommended—it's strongly encouraged. In fact, the district suggests a generous 30 minutes of reading every day for 7th graders. To ensure your reading is done at home, we will begin our class Book Bingo which you will be expected to read about 8-10 books this year. And for those who think that reading 10 books is impossible, no worries. The books you chose (and their difficulty levels) are up to you and your parents. Writing- Get ready to become a versatile writer! Throughout the year, you'll craft an array of pieces, from imaginative short stories that transport you to other worlds to critical responses that highlight your ability to look deep into the details of an issue. You'll master the art of persuasion with arguments so convincing, you could persuade a cat to take a bath. As a major highlight, we will also embark upon a dystopian journey known as Grammargeddon in which you will create a dystopian character and then roll a dice to discover what fate awaits them. Imagine this: DnD meets creative writing and parts of speech. Oh, and a bunch of art as well. Grammargeddon will have a little bit of everything! Click here to view our Grammargeddon Website.
Speaking- Prepare to step out into the spotlight as we explore the power of role play, poetry, informational speaking, and competitive debate. But here's the twist: you won't be doing it alone. Most (if not all) of our speaking activities will be in groups, a collaborative adventure. Did I mention you will also be competing in a debate championship? Yep. The podium will be set, the spotlight will be waiting, and you're about to embark on a speaking journey you'll never forget. Click here to view our Debate Champions.

Retake Policy All students can retake an essential standards assessment if they score 79% or lower on their first attempt. After one retake, students who do not meet mastery may be given one additional retake opportunity. The highest score a student may receive on a retake is 80% (no higher).
Assessment make-ups are taken during CUB or in class (on assigned make-up days). Students are responsible for remembering to retake/make up exams in a timely matter. Don't wait until the day before grades are due. It is the student's job to see me if they wish to retake assessments. Each trimester, retakes must be completed three before grades are due to the office.
