Have you brought your child to college yet? We have the usual "Bring your child to work" days every year, but there is no annual "Bring your child to college" day. It is never too early to start. I repeat, it is never too early to start. Even at this young age, your child is beginning to understand what kinds of things and places he or she likes. Maybe they really like to be near the beach, or maybe they like to ski and snowboard all the time. Maybe they are overwhelmed being around a lot of people, or maybe they thrive on being part of a huge scene. Go ahead and get their feet wet! Every child should have the option to attend the college they want to, the one where they will fit in the best. I know some of our parents may or may not have gone to a 4 year university, but to that I say GREAT! You and your child can learn about them together! Start small, take baby steps. Both Sac State and UC Davis offer walking tours for families on Saturdays. You just have to call or email ahead to reserve a spot. The tours are free and you can learn so much just from being physically on the campuses. Then once you have a tour or two under your belt, branch out. All colleges offer walking tours. Maybe you are planning a vacation to Southern California or to another state...check out the local college websites before you go and maybe take an hour or two to take a tour. It’s never too early to start looking. It’s free but the experience is priceless!
