The Pennsylvania Department of Health has issued a mandate to discourage out of state travel to slow the spread of COVID-19. The order requires Pennsylvanians who travel out of state or country to obtain a negative COVID-19 test result 72 hours prior to their return OR quarantine for 14 days upon return to Pennsylvania. “Quarantine” means the separation and restriction of the movement of individuals who may have been exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick while they are awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test or within 14 days, whichever is sooner.
Exceptions to the Department of Health’s order include traveling routinely for work or critical purposes, such as medical appointments or to comply with a court order such as custody exchanges. You can find more information here: PA DOH Info for Travelers.
The DCIU supports the state’s mitigation efforts and strongly cautions against out of state travel as set forth in the order until further notice. If your family opts to travel out of state, you must notify your son or daughter’s program supervisor or principal. In order for your child to return to school or program, he/she must show a negative COVID-19 test that was done 72 hours prior to reentering Pennsylvania. If one is not able to get tested, your child must quarantine for 14 day or until a negative COVID-19 test is provided to the program.
If your child is exposed to a COVID positive case OR your child begins to feel ill, please keep your child home and let the program know. DCIU will work with you on any next steps.
