At Dassel Elementary we use Accelerated Reader (AR) to track books students read throughout the course of the year.
Meet Our Wonderful Staff
Doug Asquith: Media Center and Digital Learning Specialist
Doug was a classroom teacher before joining the staff at Dassel Elementary in the summer of 2016. Along with running the Media Center, he is also one of the district's Gifted and Talented teachers which includes both 3rd and 4th-grade enrichment as well as 5th and 6th grade Odyssey. Outside of school, Doug is a football coach and track coach at Dassel Cokato High School. He lives in Dassel with his wife Kristin and their four children. Favorite Book: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Sarah Zimmerman: Media Center Paraprofessional
Sarah was a music and media center teacher before staying home with her children, and is excited to be back in school. She loves books and enjoys chatting with students about what they are going to read next. She lives in Dassel with her husband and four busy children. Favorite Book: Hooway for Wodney Wat
Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award
The Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award is a children's read and vote book award. Its purpose is to encourage recreational reading among school age children. Nominated titles are works of fiction of recognized quality selected by independent regional reading groups.
Students vote for a favorite title and ballots may be submitted to the Minnesota Youth Reading Awards during the month of March.

The Star of the North Award
The Star of the North Picture Award's purpose is to promote quality, engaging picture books and reading for pleasure among school-aged children. Throughout the year, teachers and media specialist read the books aloud, and to develop activities that will connect the literature to the curriculum. In March, students across the state vote on which books they think should win. The book receiving the most votes from children in grades K-2 is the winner.
