THE MELTING ARCTIC

The Arctic is currently warming twice as fast than the global average, and problems like the Albedo effect (the fraction of light that a surface reflects) are starting to appear.
The significant warming is leading to rapid ice loss. The temperature in the Arctic is determined by both human factors and natural ones. It seems hard to believe but rain also causes longer summers and reduced sea ice. The ocean can store heat and give cooling effects during climate change too! Man and nature effects combined results to irreversible damage to Arctic ice.

A temperature of 38°C was discovered in a Russian town called Verkhoyansk (Ver-co-ans-k) near the Arctic on 20 June 2020. This is the new Arctic temperature record by the World Meteorological Organization.
The Arctic is known to be very cold, and ice melts above 0 degrees. This might mean that the Arctic will melt much faster than we thought because lots of warmer countries will only experience around 30 - 34 C.

If the Arctic melts there will be consequences that will change the whole world. Sea levels will rise by 70 meters, and if this happens many cities and countries will be flooded and will become a part of the ocean. It will reduce the land and cause overpopulation in many other countries.

A thick layer of soil in the arctic is called permafrost and on top of that is a thicker layer of soil which thaws every summer.
In 1988 there were more than 2.5 million square miles of ice floating around in the Arctic but recent research found out that in 2017, there was less than 1.6 million square miles of ice floating in the water, and there might be even less in the Arctic now.
