Homework

Homework Expectations:

Homework is a fundamental part of our general academic program and helps develop a strong work ethic and personal organizational skills. Homework’s immediate educational purpose includes the following: ● To reinforce and master facts and concepts taught in class; ● To prepare for the next day of class and for quizzes and tests; ● To develop study skills and habits; ● To work on assignments not readily accomplished in the classroom, such as reading, projects, and writing essays; ● To inform parents of what is being taught in the classroom.

Assigned Homework (Home Enjoyment!)

Homework should take about 40 minutes a day, PLUS about 20 minutes of reading time.  Homework is required to be turned in on time.  Work turned in on time, signed (no initials please) by a parent/guardian, and respectfully free of rips, tears, food/drink spills etc. will receive full credit.

Nightly Math Exercises: Parent sets a timer for 35 minutes. Student starts with the odd-numbered problems and then goes back to do the even-numbered problems until the timer goes off.  All work must be done in pencil. Parent signs (no initials please) top of math exercise to attest to the fact that the student truly made a good faith effort for 35 minutes without distractions.  We will correct homework the next day in class, using red ink.  Student will not be docked for not being able to complete the math exercise IF a parent has signed, not initialed, the top of the front page attesting to the 35-minute effort.

Nightly 20-minute Reading: Reading Logs are due every Monday (not before please)--those dated and signed (no initials please) by a parent will receive credit.  Reading should be a book of choice at or just below grade level.

Every Thursday night Mock Spelling/Greek & Latin tests: Mock test given and signed by parent, grandparent, or older family member every Thursday, in preparation for weekly Friday test.

As needed (varies by student): Study for upcoming tests and quizzes; rework any math homework problems you got wrong the night before (indicated by red ink), if any, and show your work; Complete any missing/absent work.

Homework is required to be turned in on time.  Work turned in on time, signed (no initials please) by a guardian, and respectfully free of rips, tears, food/drink spills etc. will receive full credit.

There is a "No Name" folder in the classroom for work submitted without a student name on it.
