Greetings Sixth Grade Families!
Mr. O'Melia | 6th Grade | Ascent Classical Academy Douglas County
Welcome Families!
My name is Mr. Sean O'Melia, and I am thrilled to partner with you in your child’s education this year. I wanted to reach out to everyone before the school year began to say hello and tell you all a little bit about myself.
I was born and raised in Illinois and spent most of my childhood exploring the woods, building forts with my friends, and camping. I loved summer camps and ended up working for my local scout camp for 6 years. While I was there, I got to teach all sorts of fun skills like fire building, orienteering, and blacksmithing.
I attended Colorado Christian University where I graduated with a degree in outdoor leadership. I've always been passionate about helping youth grow into confident, virtuous young men and women. This is my fourth year at Ascent Classical Academy.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year with your children, and I hope you will reach out with any questions about our classroom and the year ahead.
Warmest Regards,
Mr. O'Melia
Mrs. Smelker
I grew up in Ohio and graduated from THE Ohio State University with a B.A. in Architecture. My husband, Keith, and I have raised our three children in Littleton Colorado for the last 16 years with the exception of a 5 year stint in New Orleans, LA. My interest in Classical Education budded when I stumbled upon the "Story of the World" audiobooks to fill our hours roadtripping to see family. While I have experience homeschooling and substitute teaching, I've discovered the joy of helping middle school kids navigate the joys and perrils of 6th grade. I look forward to watching each of them grow in skill, diligence, and wonder. It is a joy to help prepare both their minds and hearts for what lies ahead--in upper school and beyond.
