GET TO KNOW ME

what is your favorite book?

Moby Dick by Herman Melville. My favorite especially because of the impression it made on me as a youth when I read it. A complex tale that journeyed inside the mind of compulsion, obsession, and the havoc it can wreak on one's own self, as well as others; written in a visceral manner that helped the young mind begin to understand the complexities of human relationships, the vastness of the ocean, and the exploration with one's own humanity.

What is your favorite subject?

My favorite subject is astrophysics. I love the complexity, jaw dropping beauty of the cosmos. The cosmos is a constant reminder to me of how small we are in the grand scale of the universe. Ergo, it humbles the mind yet inspires the heart.

What do you Appreciate about ascent?

I love classical education. In an ever-changing world, classical education is a constant. It's above the noise of the moment, the zeitgeist of the day. A classically trained student recognizes the beauty in the great works of art and appreciates truth. The student, therefore, is grounded, anchored if you will, in the good, the beautiful, and the true. The student will not be moved by the whimsical waves of life.

What is your favorite Game?

I grew up playing baseball. It is my first love. I was blessed to play collegiately in San Diego, California and I'm currently a coach at Valor Christian High School.
