Ascent Classical Academy Douglas County

ABOUT ME

A Colorado native, I developed a love of history while attending a high school rooted in the classical tradition and earned a bachelor's degree in history and business from CSU. After serving in the US Coast Guard and getting married, I continued my study of history as a classroom teacher for nearly a decade before earning my master's degree in educational leadership and transitioning to school leadership. In addition to campus operations, i.e. look forward to returning to the classroom to teach U.S. history this year.

I currently sit on multiple state and federal advisory committees for such agencies as the Dept. of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and lead regional private sector safety/security coalitions. I enjoy reading, fly fishing, and camping with my wife and three children.

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

I firmly believe that a classical liberal arts education being the foundation of education is the best educational model in existence. As in our vision statement at Ascent, it truly develops the moral and intellectual skills, habits, and virtues upon which independent, responsible, and joyful lives are built, in the firm belief that such lives are the basis for a free and flourishing republic. Our unwavering commitment to educate in this fashion is a beacon of light and hope. James Madison’s statement that a “diffusion of knowledge is the only guardian of true liberty” echoes true to this day as it did when this country was first founded. This education is so critical to the prosperity of our freedom and why it is the essential truth at the heart of my educational philosophy.

WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO

I look forward to re-entering the classroom to share my passion for the history of our amazing country. Discussing the golden thread in our story, E. Pluribus Unum - Out of Many One , and why it is the quintessential essence that makes our story so unique and the centric idea that has made us a great nation.

GET TO KNOW ME

what is your favorite book?

Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle. I read this book the first time in High School and have reread it many times since. This book is virtuously stoic, but hits at the core of giving a philosophical stance on how to maintain a balanced and moderate life.

What is your favorite subject?

My favorite subject is History because the study of the past leads to a deep understanding of the present.

What do you Appreciate about ascent?

I believe in our mission. The curriculum and focus on virutes along with the wonderful families are just a few of the things that make Ascent great.

What is your favorite Game?

I played Hockey for many years and in college. Go Avs!
