ABOUT ME
This is my second year teaching at Ascent. I teach 8th grade American history, which covers everything from 1877 to the present. I love teaching this period of American history because there is so much that happened that shapes our modern world, day-to-day life, politics, the economy, etc. I also love that this time period allows us to have access to so many images, videos and writings. We don't have videos of Washington giving a speech, but we do have video of Reagan giving his "Tear Down the Wall" speech. How awesome!
Aside from that, my educational background is in history teaching, the liberal arts, as well as instructional design. I love classical education, the Great Books, and teaching at Ascent Classical Academy that encourages a love of history, good books, and overall character development. We all know that history would be so much neater if everyone just did the right thing all the time! So we try instead to learn from past mistakes but also from all the virtuous and courageous acts of various people so we can imitate greatness.

I have a hard time pinning down a favorite book, but I love Dickens and Russian authors, mainly Tolstoy and Chekhov. But I mainly read history books.

My favorite subject is of course history, but I also teach the 11th grade Moral and Political Philosophy class, which is also fun.

I love Ascent's committment to classical education and American history, as well as its partnership with Hillsdale and professional development opportunities it offers.
What do you do for fun?
What do you do for fun?
Fun? I mostly just try to relax and read in the evenings. But I also try to squeeze in some exercise and usually bake bread on the weekends.
