Student Support
Student Support
As a student at dBs Bristol, you not only have access to our amazing state-of-the-art facilities, but also our incredible support team. We pride ourselves on having a very active and accommodating team that supports students in a number of ways.
This page will give you a clearer idea of what support we offer, but if you're still unsure about anything we would encourage you to get in touch. You do not need to wait until September to talk to our student support team, so if you have anything that you would like to discuss with them, they're always happy to help. The best way to organise a chat (telephone/video call/email) is through our admissions team, who can be reached via email at admissions@dbsmusic.co.uk or via telephone at 0117 325 9290.
During induction week, a member of the team is available every morning for you to talk to about any concerns or difficulties you might have.
We recognise that not all of our students are academically minded or have had a gap since leaving school. These sessions focus on academic support covering all aspects of the academic skills to help you during your journey into academia at dBs.
As the level requirement increases as you progress through your degree, these weekly group drop-in sessions offer support on a range of topics, but you can always suggest your own topics, too. As well as being tutor led, these sessions are very conversational and so also offer peer support; forming friendships that we hope will offer you ongoing support.
These weekly drop-in sessions allow you to book in a 15-minute chat with one of the team for a quick issue or for signposting to further support.
For those of you who need a little more than the group sessions.
For students who suspect they have, or who have a diagnosis of a mental health problem, long-term illness, learning difference e.g. dyslexia, ADHD, Autism or any other disability, this funding offers additional support.
To apply you will need to have a diagnosis from e.g. a dyslexic assessment or a letter from a medic such as a GP. Details of what DSA is, the support you can get and FAQs surrounding the application process can be found using the following link:

University life is great, but doesn't come without its struggles. We have a team of fully qualified counsellors and a Mental Health Advisor to support you whilst you're with us.
There are also talks and drop-ins from a variety of organisations in Bristol too e.g. Off The Record (a mental health social organisation), Bristol Drugs Project (offers a wide variety of support to people with drug and alcohol-related issues).
Moving and living away from home for the first time can be scary and making sensible financial decisions is not always easy. We offer finance advice drop-ins and have talks by support organisations to help our students make the right choices and manage their money more effectively.
All support usually takes place onsite at dBs Sound & Music Institute. During the pandemic all support has continued as normal, just delivered remotely. It has been a very busy time!
