RATES

• We measure one unit with respect to another unit e.g.

  • Km/h

  • Litres / minute

  • Dollars per Euro

  • Frames per second

• Often time is involved as the second unit

RATIOS

• Relationship or comparison of two or more items in a definite order

• It usually compares two items but can be many

• Ratios don't need units - the units are the same and can be dropped

• Sometimes to drop the units you may need to convert similar units e.g. 1cm: 100m - convert the metres to cm so they are the same and then drop the units

• Common examples:
