"The strength of a nation lies in the unity of its people."
"My only desire is that India should be a good producer and that no one should be hungry, shedding tears for food in the country."
— Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) is a flagship initiative of the Government of India, launched on 31 October 2015 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the architect of India's national integration. The initiative seeks to strengthen the spirit of unity by fostering meaningful cultural exchange among the States and Union Territories of India.
Built upon the belief that diversity is India's greatest strength, EBSB encourages people, particularly young minds, to explore the nation's rich heritage through its languages, traditions, art, literature, cuisine, festivals, music, and shared cultural experiences. By promoting mutual understanding and appreciation, the initiative nurtures the values of national integration, respect, and collective growth.
The Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Unit of Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi, serves as a vibrant platform where culture, creativity, and youth leadership come together. Guided by the vision of the national initiative, the Unit strives to preserve and celebrate India's rich cultural heritage while inspiring students to remain connected to their roots in an increasingly global world.
Throughout the academic year, the Unit organises a diverse range of cultural, literary, and educational programmes, including debates, speeches, quizzes, extempore competitions, cultural performances, heritage celebrations, workshops, awareness campaigns, and collaborative events. These initiatives encourage students to engage with India's diverse traditions while developing confidence, leadership, and a deeper understanding of the country's cultural identity.
As part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat pairing programme, our Unit proudly collaborates with Government Sikkim College, Burtuk, Gangtok, creating opportunities for meaningful cultural exchange through online and offline interactions, competitions, and joint activities. These experiences enable students from different regions to learn from one another, celebrate diversity, and strengthen the bonds that unite our nation.
India is incredibly diverse, and that's exactly what makes it special. Through the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) initiative, Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi, is proudly paired with Government Sikkim College, Burtuk, Gangtok.
This partnership, established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), gives students from both institutions a chance to connect, learn, and celebrate each other's cultures. From cultural exchanges and interactive sessions to competitions, workshops, and collaborative events, every activity is an opportunity to explore traditions, languages, heritage, art, cuisine, and the unique stories that make each region special.
At the end of the day, this partnership is about more than just organising events. It's about building friendships, learning from one another, and celebrating the idea that while our cultures may be different, we are all part of one India.
At EBSB, every event is a chance to learn, connect, and celebrate India's incredible diversity. From cultural festivals and workshops to competitions, collaborations, and heritage walks, every activity brings students together while creating memories that last far beyond college.
