Watch and take notes on these great Environmental Science videos! Either choose topics you'd like to study, or start with video 1 and work your way through the rest (there are 35).
Pro Tip: Speed these up to 1.5X (or faster) so that you can watch more in a shorter time period.
Make a copy of this document to keep track of the videos you have watched: AP Environmental Science - Bozeman Science
View the Daystar High School Science - Book Reccomendations page to find a list of ESS books helpful for studying. Many of the books can be foudn in the Daystar science library.
Go to AP/ College Environmental Science. Use this to help you focus on extending learning.
Take the quiz on 2024 Quizzes. Use this to help focus on what you really need to study in each topic.
Make flashcards for concepts and terminology that you find difficult to remember. There are flashcards available in the science lab.
In my experience, I've found that creating the flashcards helps me learn more than just studying a set. Quizlet is a good idea, but creating the cards and then practicing them will enhance the process.
Go back through your notes and previous slides. You could:
Write a 1-2 paragraph summary of the notes for each subtopic. Highlight important terminology.
Create a detailed outline of the information. Summarize what you learned and concentrate on the most important information.
Complete the ESS Reviews from prevous units. Try to complete these without using your notes.
Complete a topic organizer for either a whole
Topic - Example: Topic 2 - Ecosystems and ecology
Subtopic - Example: Subtopic 2.1 Species and populations
You can find "Significant Ideas" on each subtopic slide.
There are multiple sized templates. Let Mr. Slomkowski know if you need one printed.
Go back to previous topics and draw a thorough system diagram. Remember to include the following:
Energy and Materials
Inputs and Outputs
Storages and Flows
Key
Try creating a system boundary from memory and then go back to the notes to fill in the gaps.
Some ideas include: Various Climates, Various Ecosystems, Soil Systems, Agriculture Systems, Ocean Systems, Lake Systems, Atmosphere Systems, etc.
If you take the time to create a Kahoot for us to play, I will make sure that we find time to do so!
Use this template to create a Kahoot: Kahoot Request Form. Be sure to follow all directions and share with Mr. Slomkowski.
Review the 3 major Environmental Value Systems (EVSs). Choose a topic and issue and write how each one of the value systems would approach the topic.
Examples:
How would each EVS approach the issue of overfishing oceans (Topic 4)
How would each EVS view terrestrial food production systems of a particular location (Topic 5)
How would each EVS help remedy the smog issue of Los Angeles (Topic 6)
Record yourself reading through your notes or reviewing information found on class slides or websites. Listen to them with headphones. When you listen, really listen (don’t daydream!).
You could also make a 5-10 minute podcast or interview where you discuss a subtopic or topic. You should write a brief outline of what you would like to discuss. This type of audio will be shared with the class to help them study.
Review Audio Advice for more tips and ideas for recording.
Note: You can just use your computer to record audio. Mr. Slomkowski has recording equipment if you would prefer higher quality audio. Please talk to him to set up a time and see how to use. Refer to Zoom H1N.
