Original Image
I used this image of my dog, Bear, holding a ball in his mouth for this keychain project
Adobe Illustrator design
For this keychain project, I used one main software, Adobe Illustrator, to create my design. Next, I used the pen tool to trace my image and cut out a hole for the chain.
Once I had the design I put the outside lines to 0.001 inches 1/4 inch sheet of plywood into the Fusion Pro Laser printer to cut out my keychain. It took me a couple of tries to get the settings right
To create this sticker I first went into Illustrator and used the reflection tool to reflect the image horizontally, so I could line it up with my cutout. Next, I added a magenta border around the outside and on the whole so that the printer could recognize that this part had to be cut.
Finally, I emailed the file to the maker space computer and downloaded the image there. Then I put it into the sticker printing app and waited for everybody else to put their stickers on, so Mr. Supiro could print them. And lastly, I stuck the sticker to my keychain, and finished the project!
Reflection
During this project, many things went well, most notably my sticker-making. I enjoyed this part because it was fun to make a sticker of my dog and put it onto something that I created. The hardest part for me was getting the ball in his mouth to look like a ball in the engraving. it was challenging because the image is connected to his mouth, so I was having a difficult time showing that in the cut. If I were to do this again I would definitely spend more time perfecting my wood engraving because that is by far the part that looked the worse. I would also make the tongue and teeth pop out more.
