3D MODEL IN FUSION
To get started you need to design your project of fusion 360. Start by measuring your silicone mat and modeling your fusion after that. Start with a rectangle the size of your silicone mat. Then draw a curved line from one edge to the next however you want your wood to be. Then do another curved line across from that. You will want to find dimensions for the size width of each stock(add a line at the furthest point of the curve). Then you can extrude the two outside shapes leaving a gap in between (that will be where your epoxy goes). Your extrusion should start at about one inch. Then you can make two stocks around your two models. then you continue in manufacture where you will do a separate setup and 2D contour(see cnc sign) for each model since you will cnc the two sides separately.
PREPARING WOOD
For this step you will need a few pieces of wood all of which are about one inch thick and 22 inches long. Then you will glue them together so that you have two pieces that fit the dimensions of the two pieces you made in fusion. You can glue them and clamp them and then give them about 24 hours to dry.
Once they are dry you will want to even out the sides using the planner. Put the wood in the planner and find the height of the piece. Then send it though taking away a quarter turn with each send through until the side is completely flat, then flip it and do the other side if necessary. Once both pieces are flat on both sides send both thorugh one after another so that they are exactly the same thickness. Then measure the thickness and edit your extrusions on fusion to match that thickness.
PREPARE CNC
Now that your wood in planed and ready to be cut you will decide which edge you want to be cut for the curve and which to be on the outside, and which side you want to be the top and bottom. Then you will tape the bottom of whichever piece you want to cnc first. Then you will send your post process file for that model to the cnc. When your stock is taped down you will set your origin and cut. Then you will do the same process for the other piece.
EPOXY
Once you have cut your wood you will use the router table to clean up the edges and make an angle on the curved edge of the top side of each piece of the wood. Then you will put the wood pieces into the silicon mat with a gap for the epoxy.
You will then mix the epoxy. First you will calculate the volume of the space the epoxy will go in, and then pour a 2:1 ratio of resin and hardener for that volume and mix for about a minute. Then add color and some sparkle for a marble effect. Then pour the mixed epoxy into the silicon mat and weigh down the wood so it doesn't float in the epoxy. Then let sit for 48 hours. If you want you can come in about 10 hours in and mix your slightly hardened epoxy to marble the color.
