Setting Up A DAWn Studio
Check Out DAWn Audio In Action:
Before we walk through setting up a studio, check out our demo:
1. Set Your Studio Settings
DAWn uses these settings communicate with your DAW
When you first log in to the DAWn app, you'll be taken to the home studio lobby page. From there click the menu icon in the top right of your window and then go to settings
Select your DAW, your MIDI Bus, and click "Save"
NOTE: If DAWn is unable to find your PureData Path, it will prompt you to set the path manually.
Do so by clicking "Set PureData path" and searching for the folder that contains pd-0.5 (likely your applications folder)
2a. Creating A New Studio
The DAWn studio is where you'll co-create
(Skip this step if joining a friend's studio)
In the navbar, click "Create New Studio"
Enter a name for your studio, and add a password to control who has access
Click "Create Studio" to be taken to your new studio
2b. Joining An Existing Studio
The DAWn studio is where you'll co-create
(Skip this step if already in a studio)
In the navbar, click "Join Studio" to go to the studio lobby page.
The studio lobby page is where you'll see available studios. If joining an existing one, simply click the corresponding studio and enter the appropriate password if prompted
3. Setting Up Your Studio Workflow
Now that you're in your studio let's set up the proper workflow
Make sure "pd application" is open and the "Netty" patch has been opened (small window that says DAWn Audio and "set audio"). Netty is the tool we use to sync audio with your co-creators
DISCLAIMER: If Netty did not automatically open, or if it was accidentally closed, you can manually open Netty by clicking "Connect Audio" in the studio page
Click "Set Audio" on the Netty patch. Set your input to VB Cable and your output to your desired output system
Note your sample rate should match the one on your DAW and match your collaborators.
Click "Save All Settings", "Apply", and then minimize the Netty window
Shrink the DAWn Studio to simply show the toolbar and move the window to the top of your screen
Open your DAW, shrink and place the window of your DAW so it sits below the DAWn Studio
4. Co-Creating In Your Studio Workflow
Now, let's co-create
When new co-creators join your studio, you'll see their initials appear under "Co-Creators"
Click "Play" or "Stop" to queue play and stop in all active co-creators DAWs and hear your projects synced
Once you're done co-creating simply export the master track of all separate projects to combine into one final track
