GIH Tech Competition

Fulton Science Academy will host the Georgia Independent and Home school Technology competition on Sunday, January 31, 2027. The cost to participate is $15 per student.  Students will present their projects to the judges face to face.  There are no virtual presentations, with the limited exception for students who are unable to participate in person for specific religious reasons (advanced approval is required). The final day for student registration is Friday, December 18, 2026. Registration will open in September.  We will send out communication to each school's sponsor with more details as we get closer to the event.  The competition is open to 3rd - 12th grade students in all independent and home schools in Georgia. This competition is an great way for students showcase their technology abilities in various categories.   Students may participate in one of 12 different categories across five grade groups:

• 3rd & 4th Grade (2nd graders can also compete at this level)

• 5th & 6th Grade

• 7th & 8th Grade

• 9th & 10th Grade

• 11th & 12th Grade

All first-place winners are automatically entered into the 2027 Georgia Student Technology Competition.  More details about the state competition will be given as we get closer to the event.  

The GASTC Programming Challenge will be a separate event again. Students may participate in this event and still compete in the main competition as well.  The programming challenge will be held on virtually.  Mike Afdahl is the main contact for this event.  More information and details about the event can be found on the state's website:  https://www.gastc.org/programming .   

As part of participation in the regional fair, students will receive a t-shirt at the regional competition.   We are having a contest for the t-shirt design.   Students may use generative AI as part of the t-shirt design creation, but Ai is not a requirement for design submission. Students should share their inspiration and meaning of the design and the process of creating their design.  If students choose to use AI, documentation of the process is required. Students must share which tools they used, the process of the design, the prompts and settings with using the ai tools.  The design must be a mono-color to allow for silk-screen printing on the t-shirt.  The final day to submit a design for a t-shirt is December 4th, 2026.
