9th Grade Syllabus <-- Available below or via the Google Doc above.
Your conduct in class should follow school rules and classroom expectations/procedures.
The following are the REQUIREMENTS for ALL of your classes:
a. Be prompt and prepared: Be on time for every class. Have all necessary materials present and ready to use at the beginning of class. Prompt and prepared assumes all assignments are completed.
b. Be your best: Realize that school is your job; turn in your highest quality work on time and consistently and you will reap the rewards.
c. Be polite and considerate: Treat everyone with respect. Assume good intentions from peers and teachers. If you encounter something that seems disrespectful, please reach out to your teacher, connections teacher, or another trusted DVC staff for help.
d. Be productive: Be curious and serious about learning. Approach this as a relationship to people who have learned in the past and present. Realize that you have a voice with something to say and have an opportunity to use it.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get caught up. There are plenty of resources to help you get caught up - Google Classroom, the 9th grade website, flex-block, and office hours.
Office hours are a great time to have individual questions answered about missing assignments! All missed classwork can also be found on Google Classroom.
It is incredibly important to establish a habit of turning in your work on time in the 9th grade. When you do turn in an assignment late, your “Quality & Accountability” score will be reduced; however, you will still be graded on mastery for the content. If you are missing work, you must come to office hours to communicate directly with your teacher.
**Late work and resubmits for large assignments and projects will be accepted up to two weeks after the deadline, unless otherwise noted by the teacher.**
Each student is responsible for meeting all course requirements. All grades will reflect student mastery of content skills and final grades will be reflective of the student’s level of content and skill mastery. These skills will be assessed through students’ performance on assessments (based on 1.0-4.0 score). Students will have many opportunities to demonstrate their mastery level, but it is essential to understand this grading system is NOT based on the amount of work students do. Rather, a student’s grade will reflect the LEVEL of MASTERY they have achieved.
Students should apply the Da Vinci Habits of Mind to continually strive for higher levels of understanding and skill application.
Letter grades will be earned using the following scale:
Note: Any grade lower than a C- (below 37%) is considered not passing (incomplete) at Da Vinci. A student who earns a grade lower than a C- will be responsible for completing summer school, additional classes or special assignments and work to recover the credit for the class.
(Rubrics to help guide mastery of the essential skills will be available at the beginning of each project.)
Your final grade will be composed of the following:
Habits of Mind 15-20%
Essential Skills 85-90%

Examples of academic dishonesty include, but are not limited to: all acts of cheating on assignments or examinations, or facilitating other students’ cheating; plagiarism, fabrication of data, including the use of false citations; improper use of non-print media, unauthorized access to computer accounts or files or other privileged information; and improper use of internet sites and resources.
