What is a Calming Corner?
A Calming Corner is a space in the classroom where you can go to when you feel like you are very frustrated, sad, or mad and you need just a few moments away from everything else so that you can calm down and be ready to listen, learn, and be a leader in the classroom again.
We have many tools in our Social Emotional Learning Toolbox that all students at Sorgho School have been taught in past years. This week we are going to reteach these tools to everyone so that all students and adults at Sorgho School will know when and how to use each tool.
The first week of school we will be discussing zones of regulation. Self-regulation is the ability to attain, maintain, and change your emotions (feelings) and behaviors (actions).
Similar to SELF-CONTROL. It’s like when you are sad, what do you need to do to make yourself feel happier. When you’re mad, what can you do to keep yourself from yelling.
We have to think about the way we feel. Think about how that emotion makes my body feel. Think about what I usually do when I get that feeling. Then, think about if that action is expected.
