Mrs. Grant's Class

Hello!

I’m Mrs. Grant. This is my 6th year working at William R. Davie on the Kindergarten team. I am thrilled to be your child's teacher and am looking forward to an upcoming year of adventure, fun, and learning!

I am from Mocksville, North Carolina and I graduated from Davie County High School. After high school, I relocated to the coast where I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. While I enjoyed my time at the beach, I decided to move back to Davie County because it has always been home to me and it truly has an amazing school system to work in that always makes students a priority.

There is so much that I am looking forward to this school year. Some of the topics we will cover this year include, learning the letters of the alphabet, counting numbers 1-20, spelling simple words phonetically, observable patterns and changes of weather, and so much more! There's lots to be done this year and I'm so excited we will get to do it together.

My Classroom

Around my classroom you will find a plethora of learning methods purposefully utilized to accommodate a multitude of learning styles. I believe in hands on learning and in this classroom we find a way for everyone to grow and succeed as we establish an early foundation of having a growth mindset. There are multiple seating styles around the room and we are continuously moving throughout our day from the carpet, partner teams, table groups, and so many other settings. I believe that kinders can do anything and that someday these little humans will go on to change the world, so it is an honor to start their school careers right here together and watch their learning take off to new heights.

My Instructional Philosophy

As an educator, I believe that all children are capable of learning; however, it is my duty to know a child’s own individual abundance of needs that must be met while they are in my classroom in order to best support them in their academic growth. Being a kindergarten teacher allows me to have the opportunity to often be the first to formally educate a child. This also charges me with the responsibility of being the first to get to know a student’s background they come from, their emotional needs, and so many other external factors that go into the makeup of who they are. I believe in establishing relationships that are built upon trust and respect with all students by showing them how to treat one another through my own example of how I treat them. Through my positive behavior intervention supports (PBIS), explicit and consistent classroom management strategies, and continuous efforts to build compassionate and supportive relationships with my students, a trustworthy, safe, and nurturing atmosphere is created where all students can learn and grow.
