Instrument Testing Night is Tuesday, April 23rd at Davie High School!  Click HERE to go to the SignUp Genius and sign up for a time.  If you can't find a slot that works for you, you can just drop by.

Let me introduce myself . . .

My name is Sean Nelson, and this is my 9th year teaching Band at North Davie Middle School.

I graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1998 with a Bachelor’s of Music Education degree, with an emphasis on Middle and High School Band Instruction.  I worked in Oklahoma from 1998 to 2002 as a Middle and High School Band Director.  After that, I moved to North Carolina to be closer to family, and I worked at Lexington High School from 2002 to 2005.  During my time at Lexington, I founded the Piedmont Honor Band, which I still organize and run.  To date the PHB has hosted thousands of students from dozens of schools in the greater Piedmont area, including many students from North Davie.

After my son was born in 2004, I looked for a position that didn’t involve so much after school activity time.  High School Band can be very time-intensive after school with marching band, contests, festivals, lessons and extra rehearsals.  When an Elementary Music position opened up in Davie County, I decided to pursue a significant career change.  I found Elementary Music to be a very rewarding career, and what I thought would be a position that I would keep for just a couple of years turned out to be ten wonderful years in our county. 

During my time at Cornatzer and Mocksville, band still stayed in my blood, and I kept up with several band-centered projects.  I kept the Piedmont Honor Band going, though it moved to Kernersville.  I was asked to start a band at the Early College.  There wasn’t quite enough student interest to keep that going, but the band enjoyed six years of quality, unique programs under my direction.  I also co-founded the Davie County Community Band.  Also during my time at Cornatzer and Mocksville, I earned my Nationsl Board Teaching Certification.  In addition to all of that, I also write marching band drill for several Piedmont area schools.  I have judged several times at marching band contests, and have enjoyed working as a brass and marching consultant for several high school bands.

 I’m happy to continue my position at North Davie.  I live here in Davie County with my wife Stephanie, my son Tim and my daughter Emily.  We are also the happy pet owners of our dog Leo, and our two cats Luna and Catniss.
