The Federal Work Study Program awards eligible students a stipend throughout the academic year as part of their Financial Aid award package. Students ineligible for Federal or State grant monies may be eligible to participate.
The award is earned by working on campus up to 20 hours per week. Students work in a variety of offices across campus. Examples include the Admissions Office, DDCC Marketing Department, Campus Fitness Centers, the Storm Cellar cafeteria, and even program specific roles like Aquarium Specialist in our Aquarium Science program. Positions are available on the Davidson and Davie Campuses.
Students are asked to complete a short application and their information is then made available to the various work sites across campus. See below for more information.
Visit www.studentaid.gov and locate the "FAFSA Form" tab on the top left and complete the FAFSA form.
Reminder! You can visit the Financial Aid Office in the Enrollment Center, 1st Floor, Mendenhall Building, Davidson Campus for help.
Check your StormTrac to make sure you have an award offer. If you are unsure, check in with the Financial Aid Office.
The application will take you approximately 10-15 minutes. Be as thorough as possible when answering the questions. Students that provide little to no information are often not hired.
Complete the Work Study Application
After you complete the application, the Financial Aid staff will review it for Work Study eligibility. If there are issues or questions, we will reach out to you. Your information is then shared with the supervisors in any open Work Study position for their review.
If a work study supervisor would like to interview you, they will reach out. Make sure that your phone can accept voicemail and that your voice mailbox has space.
Reminder! Review our Interview Skills Workbook for general interview preparation tips!
If you are selected for a position, you will need to visit the Human Resources Office, 2nd Floor, Brooks Student Center, to complete the Work Study paperwork.
Yes! Students earn $15 per hour and can work up to a MAXIMUM of 20 hours per week.
When you are approved for Work Study, you will have a set amount for the current semester. We will let you know the suggested number of hours per week you should work so you can work throughout the full semester. However, if you and your supervisor choose to have you work more, the faster you will go through that semester's allotment. If you do so, you will be ineligible to work until the next semester.
Work study jobs are all across campus at both the Davidson and Davie Campuses. Examples from previous years include the Fitness Center, StormCellar Cafeteria, Admissions, Career Development and numerous other areas. Students can also work in specific academic areas such as the Welding Lab or the Aquarium Lab.
During the August/September selection process, students and supervisors are blind to each other. Meaning that neither group has the name or information regarding the position or the student. After that, you can return to this page and there will be a list of Work Study positions that remain open and apply to them directly.
Keep in mind that the Work Study program is a Financial Aid program so any student that complete the FAFSA can request a work study position. Unfortunately, there isn't enough funding, nor enough need on campus for every interested student to be selected.
Also, if you can only work a few hours per week or your schedule doesn't meet the needs of the available positions you may not be chosen. Lastly, if you feel that you could have provided more information on your application regarding your skills and interests. Let us know and we can update that material for you.
