Equity Coach Academy
at Guilford Technical Community College - Cameron Campus
Introducing the Equity Coach Academy, a comprehensive year-long program designed to elevate participants' grasp of equity by amplifying and implementing optimal strategies. Through this transformative journey, participants will:
- Cultivate Leadership Excellence: Acquire leadership acumen through collaborative initiatives, impactful conversations, inclusive practices from an intersectional perspective, and a steadfast commitment to accountability.
- Advocate for Equitable Student Outcomes: Champion student welfare by advocating for systemic and institutional transformations that address diverse needs, ensuring outcomes are consistently equitable.
- Bridge Student Equity Gaps: Instill practices that effectively bridge the gaps in student equity, fostering an environment where every student has equal opportunities to thrive.
- Promote Faculty and Staff Equity: Address faculty-staff equity disparities through intentional practices, promoting a harmonious and inclusive campus community.
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will emerge as empowered Equity Coaches, poised to bolster student success and achievement within their own institutions, and extend their support to sister institutions as well. Together, we'll pave the path for a more equitable educational landscape.

Session1
September 18 - 20, 2024 - Personal Awareness
Session 1 is dedicated to self-discovery. Before embarking on the journey of assisting and educating others, it's crucial to have a clear understanding of your own identity and the significance of this work to you. This session will delve into various aspects, including language, emotional intelligence, social identity, positionality, and more, to help you lay a strong foundation for your role in the Equity Coach Academy.

October 16 - 18, 2024 - Coaching For Equity
Session 2 is designed to center on coaching principles. During this session, participants will acquire fundamental insights into coaching techniques and learn how to effectively apply them to promote equity.

Sessions 5 - 7
Spring 2025 Campus Meetings
Session 5/Meeting #1 will encompass:
Presenting an overview of the coach's acquired knowledge.
Evaluating ongoing initiatives.
Offering recommendations to augment the college's existing efforts.
Sessions 6 & 7/Meetings 2 & 3 will serve as progress check-ins involving: These meetings will provide opportunities to discuss the successful integration of the Equity Coach into the College's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion endeavors.
Additional Training
Every participant is obligated to engage in supplementary training beyond the academy curriculum. A mandatory workshop, included in your tuition, must be successfully completed before the December graduation.
Equity Coaches will further take part in monthly professional development activities and/or check-in sessions following the academy. These gatherings will involve coaches from preceding cohorts, fostering continuous growth and collaboration.

We are only accepting 20 participants for this academy. Tuition for the Equity Coach Academy is $1900 per participant. Participants will meet for two and a half days monthly for four months. This cost includes a catered meal each day, an afternoon snack, and academy materials. Hotel accommodations are not included in the cost of the academy.
