AI Detection Tool Guidance for Educators
Davidson County Schools takes a proactive and nuanced approach to addressing AI-generated student work. While technological tools exist that claim to detect AI content, we strongly advise against utilizing on these unreliable detection methods.
Why We Discourage AI Detectors
• Current AI detection technologies are fundamentally flawed
• These tools frequently produce:
• False positive results
• Inaccurate assessments
• Potential bias against certain student writing styles
Our Recommended Approach
Instead of using detection tools, we encourage educators to:
• Design assignments that require personal reflection
• Create authentic assessment strategies
• Engage students in conversations about academic integrity
• Focus on understanding student learning processes
• Develop assignments that demonstrate critical thinking
Best Practices
1. Create context-specific assignments
2. Incorporate in-class writing components
3. Use scaffolded assignments with multiple checkpoints
4. Emphasize original thinking and personal analysis
Our goal is to educate, not punish—supporting student learning remains our highest priority.
