Scholar-Athlete Mock Interview Prep Guide
Before the Mock Interview
Check out the Interviewing Guide and think about what areas you want to focus on practicing for your mock interview (i.e. general prep, providing specific examples in questions, framing your answers, etc.).
Take a look at Practice Questions and the Mock Interview Rubric to prepare and understand focus areas (must be logged into Davidson Google account for access).
Read about the STAR Method prior to your mock interview.
Relax 😃 This is a low-pressure environment where you have the opportunity to practice in a safe space. Our mentors are here to help you and provide guidance in your preparation.
During the Mock Interview
Your mentor will offer different mock interview formats. You are in control and can always stop, start, pause, or whatever you need to do to make progress. This a casual environment designed for your comfort to make mistakes, learn, and gain feedback to become a better interviewer.
Mock Interview Structure Options
(Optional) Before you start: Walk through a few minutes of basic interviewing tips & tricks with your mentor
Option 1 – Go straight through questions for 8-10 minutes without stopping and receive feedback at the end
Option 2 – Answer one question at a time with instant feedback
Option 3 – Combination of Option 1 & 2
After the Mock Interview
Review the feedback provided by your mentor (this will be emailed to you) and pick the areas you want to work on for next time - practice these areas on your own, with a friend/family member, or schedule another meeting with a mentor.
Take your interview prep to the next level and schedule a Mock Interview with the Matthews Center for additional preparation and feedback! (Highly recommended)
Make continued progress! Interviewing is an imperfect process that you will continue to perfect as you gain experience and confidence. You do not have to be the "perfect interviewer" to get the job or internship offer - just be yourself and be confident in your skills, abilities, and storytelling!
