SUMMER EXPERIENCES
In addition to summer internships and work experiences, there are several other valuable experiences students interested in business can explore.
Study Abroad:
London School of Economics: Students are able to study at LSE over the summer, choosing between completing 1, 2, or 3 sessions over the course of the summer. Noteably, students are able to complete Accounting at LSE and transfer the course back to Davidson, allowing them to complete other Accounting courses or Intro to Finance at Davidson. Students will typically study at LSE the summer after their first or second year at Davidson.
Business Bridge Programs:
Several well known and well respected colleges and universities through the U.S. offer summer programs for students who attend liberal arts colleges and are interested in pursuing a career in business. At Davidson, we work specifically with two of these programs: Tuck Business Bridge Program at Dartmouth College and Vanderbilt Summer Immersion Accelerator Program at Vanderbilt University.
Both of these programs offer students the opportunity to live on their campuses for 3-4 weeks over the summer and take business-related courses taught by premier MBA faculty. The Tuck program has a slight emphasis on finance, while the Vanderbilt program offers a focus on consulting. Past Davidson students have participated in both programs with success. Note that these courses are non-credit baring and do not transfer back to Davidson.
Both programs offer scholarships/financial aid to students. Davidson will also offer some grant funds that students can apply for if interested in either program. Here is the process to apply for the grant funds for summer 2024:
Students apply to the program of their choice (Tuck and/or Vanderbilt), by 3/10.
Receive admission decision by mid to late March.
Apply for financial aid from program and receive funding notice by late March.
Submit application for Davidson grant funds by April 1st via this application (Alvarez funding for international students is due prior to this. Please apply for Alvarez funding if you qualify.) Note: when you fill out this application, you will need to have selected either Tuck or Vanderbilt to attend; you cannot apply for Davidson funding to both programs.
Receive decision about Davidson grant funds by April 12th. Please note that the amount of funds we are able to award will depend on the number of students who apply and how much aid they receive from Tuck/Vanderbilt. Applying for grant funds from Davidson is not a guarantee that funds will be awarded to you.
Submit acceptance of grant funds and direct deposit info to the Matthews Center by mid April.
Receive funds from Davidson by April 19th and pay the deposit at your chosen school. Note: we have a formal relationship with both Tuck and Vanderbilt and have arranged special deadlines. You do not need to submit an acceptance or deposit to either school before you are awarded funds from Davidson. Simply email the program and let them know you are going through the Davidson scholarship process and waiting to make your decision until you know what funds you have been awarded.
