SUMMER INTERNSHIP GRANTS
The Betty and B. Frank Matthews II ’49 Center for Career Development aims to reduce the financial challenges associated with participating in a wide range of unpaid or low-paying summer internships and research experiences related to their career interests.
Through the generosity of numerous alumni, parents and friends who believe in the importance of experiential learning opportunities, we are able to offer students who accept unpaid or low-paying internships with grants to support cost-of-living expenses while completing their summer experiences. Grants should not be considered wage replacement.
Professional development opportunities (i.e. certifications, business intensives, industry focused prep programs, conferences, etc.) will be considered under a separate application. Students interested in applying to receive funding assistance should apply for a Professional Development Grant.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I apply for funding if I have not accepted an internship yet?
Yes! You can still apply for funding even if you have not yet accepted an internship. However, you must be in the application process for the internship in order to be considered for funding.
Can the committee review my application early?
Your application cannot be reviewed prior to the deadline. Applications are reviewed collectively after each deadline by a committee that meets after the deadline.
I have multiple opportunities that I am in the application process for; can I apply to be considered for each of them?
Students submit ONE application. Choose the internship that you are most interested in and complete the application based on that one experience. If you are selected to receive a grant and have accepted a different internship than what your application was based on, you'll work directly with the Matthews Center staff to see if the grant can be transferred the new experience.

Unfortunately, due to limited resources funding cannot be guaranteed to all applicants. The Summer Internship Grants Program is competitive and applicants should take time to submit the strongest application possible

Priority is given to applicants who have not received a grant previously. However, if you meet all the eligibility requirements you can apply again for a grant.
