Taken at a Japanese shrine where deer wander freely among visitors, this moment captures the quiet loneliness of solo travel, where even a brief encounter with an animal can offer unexpected comfort.
Walking along the Nyhavn canal and its row of colorful houses, one feels almost as if they've stepped into a life-sized fairytale town. It's not hard to imagine how Nyhavn might have inspired the famous stories from it's 19th century resident, Hans Christian Andersen.
This is an image taken from a rooftop restaurant in Chefchaouen, Morocco. The city lies in the Rif Mountains, so the city slants upwards towards the right. The buildings are various shades of blue and white with a backdrop of distant mountains, fog, and a bright sunset.
I received the Alvarez grant to renew my F-1 visa as I receive a DRI to travel to the UK. I had to be in Vietnam to renew it as it made the most sense. At the time, the portal showed that my visa were "Refused", I traveled back home, still jet lagged, with my friend who was travelling Vietnam at the time. At 6 am, we hit my hometown beach in a small coastal city of Northern Central Vietnam to beat the crowd. It was the most beautiful sunrise I've ever seen, even though I've seen it a thousand times.
Balloons drift over the Valley of the Kings in the Sahara Desert at sunrise.
This photo was taken as a storm began developing in the mountain range that surrounds Moray, a place in the Sacred Valley of Peru that was used as agricultural terraces in Incan Society. There was a sense of calm and quiet over the valley, that blended the history of the place with the current moment in time.
An image from the coast of Italy from an overlook. A pale yellow church with a clock tower overlooks a deep blue sea, where a white sailboat and several large cargo ships drift in the distance, with hazy, snow-capped mountains rising along the horizon under a clear sky.
A cat caught admiring the plants in the Barrio de Santa Cruz.
The jingle of the bells abruptly stopped as I walked by. When I looked over at the flock, I was startled to see so many faces directed right at me. We stood in silence as the sun rose behind us, observing each other with curiosity. I kept walking, the bells began to jingle again.
A wide coastal landscape viewed from a cliff, showing turquoise ocean waves crashing against rugged rocky shores. A winding stone path and lookout terraces sit on the cliff in the foreground, with green vegetation covering the land. The horizon stretches across the background beneath a partly cloudy sky, with sunlight illuminating the sea and coastline.
Photo taken from a drone view of the islands in Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. "Ha Long" means "descending dragon," and explains the local tales that the bay was filled with dragons to ward off invaders.

My hike through the Swiss alps was plagued by these cows. Thankfully, this photo captures neither their smell nor their noise.
After leaving at 1:00 a.m. to trek under stars and moonlight, I reached the base of Mount Fitz Roy just in time to watch the first rays of sunrise spill down the iconic Patagonia crags.
I was on a solo trip for art history, looking at St. Ives, Cornwall. I got nervous taking photos and pulling out my clunky film camera, but I eventually got over it and couldn't resist all the colors interacting on this beach. The photo in my head of the icy blue water meeting the dramatic green cliffs is still somehow stronger than anything I managed to capture. Virginia Woolf's lighthouse is beyond this inlet.
This is of the resident puppy on the donkey farm I worked on this past summer. His name is Pâté (like the French meat spread) and was the most energetic puppy I have seen.

This photo captures the balance between the traditional red paint buildings and the rocky forested land characteristic of the Swedish Småland region.
An orange-purplish sunset over a lake with clouds emerging from the mountains in the backdrop.
Two raccoons in a nature reserve in Matsumoto, Japan. One seems to be admiring the flowers while the other is more interested in something on the ground.
The image depicts the student excavators during a typical day digging.
Two baby snow monkeys wrestle at Jigokudani Hot Springs in Nagano, Japan. I've wanted to see the hot springs snow monkeys since I learned about them when I was seven. I spent nearly ten hours on trains and buses for two hours with them, and it was absolutely worth it. These two were part of a group of five babies I watched for nearly an hour chase, wrestle, and take snack breaks in the snow.
