Administrative Policies:
Removal of Books, Articles, Outlines, Handouts, Video, or Educational Materials available to students in the Classroom or Library:
Book Reconsideration- Fill out this formal reconsideration form to prompt a team to meet and come to consensus if the book is appropriate for school-aged students.
Circulation Policies:
Students and staff can choose a range of books to explore different genres, authors and topics. Students can choose any book based on interest and have ownership over their learning. Check out has some boundaries but ultimately is flexible depending on the situation (student, staff, circumstance).
Check Out- Students can check out 2 books initially. If they ask for additional books, they are granted. There is never a limit, yet consistent reminders and support in returning the books. A 2 book checkout is a suggested and reinforced amount. Reference materials can be checked out 1 item at a time and are due in 2 days. K-2 keep library books in their classrooms only.
Terms of Loan- Students and staff have a check out time period of 2 weeks and a renewal can be additional 2 weeks (this can vary with the student).
Overdue Materials- If the student is unsure of where the book(s) are, I call home. Parents, please be supportive in finding the books. If there is no response to contact with the student or parent, checkout numbers will be limited to 2 and the student cannot take the books home. Staff and students receive monthly overdue notices as reminders. Fines are determined by the district.
Copyright and Fair Use Policies:
Copyright Policy-The copyright policy revolves around respecting the rights of the creators. The guidelines explain how students can use books, artwork or digital material. Guidelines include reading for personal use, no copying material without permission from the publisher and citing evidence (giving credit) to the creator.
Fair Use-Students and staff will understand that copyrighted materials can be used if the uses are meant to add something new (learning in education), or a different purpose from the original work. The use does not infringe on the owner's rights.
