Shirt Sizing and Parents Meeting
[21 March 2024]
We will be setting up for shirt sizing around 6:30 (time approximate) on Friday evening in RM 118 (inside Door B2) if anyone finds that more convenient than Saturday morning, please feel free to stop by. This will end at 7:30PM. On Saturday morning at 9:00AM, shirt sizing will again be available in the same room. At 10:00AM there will be a parents' meeting in Room 100 (large room in the back of the church across from the restrooms). It shouldn't last more than 30-45 minutes. I will not be able to have an afternoon parents' meeting this year, but you can contact me for a make up session should it be necessary. There will be printouts on the table (players and coaches (who have registered)) containing the estimated shirt sizes received during registration. I the shirt size proves to be correct, just initial or check the row beside the verified name. If you are changing the shirt size, please cross out the estimate and provide the actual shirt size in the 'Confirmed Size' column of your player's row.
We will be finalizing franchise rosters this weekend beginning Saturday afternoon. This is primarily an exercise involving the GMs and Commissioner with additional input being provided by coaches and parents. We intend to have the league formed by Sunday evening with rosters being published and schedules being made available. We currently have 138 registered players and will close registration sometime next week. This points us toward a 3 division season (tee ball, minors and majors), rather than the 4 division seasons (tee ball, middies, minors, and majors) that we have had in the last two years. It is also close to our ideal league size and distribution of ages (12 player teams in the majors, 12 player teams in the minors, and 8 player tee ball teams.

Saturday practice slots will be published as soon as they are confirmed. They are not confirmed now (despite having not changed for more than 10 years) because time slots are included in the league draft negotiations.
Registration will likely close early to mid next week. If you have friends that have been thinking about playing, this weekend will be the time for them to make up their minds.
Payment information, player evaluations, volunteering, and league communications
[20 March 2024]
Per the registration page, the make up evaluations for new to the league players who are birth year 2016 and before is tonight at 5:30PM (sorry for the late finalization). This is a new thing that we are trying this year to better balance the league. There is no penalty for not being able to make this, but it will be helpful for us.
You may begin making payments per the 'Payment Options' section below. This year, to solve a few problems that we have had in previous years, you are required to make at least a partial payment for registration prior to your players inclusion in the equipment order (caps, shirts, and for the majors and minors players, socks). You may also make payments in installments. We will track your payments and you will be able to see where you are via your profile page (once the profile pages are created).
In another league pilot program, we are going to track 'volunteer chips' on a per registration basis. In the Amish theme of 'Many Hands Make for Light Work', we would like everyone to do a little. What this means in practice is that we will seek out those who have not volunteered to fill the gaps when we are short staffed rather than putting additional load on those who have volunteered. We will have a volunteer 'registration' page in the next week.
We will again be using MatterMost for league communications. I am in the process of updating the server and making it ready for use. My plan is to generate the accounts automatically and provide the login credentials to each parent, guardian, coach, and umpire. The older players, like last year, will be able to register for an account and placed into the franchise and team channels that I will be creating. I have complete access to the communications, so there will be supervision. This facility is meant make league communications easier, it is not a general social networking platform. It is not public infrastructure, it is on a server in the Commissioner's possession.
[17 March 2024] Apologies to those who have been watching this page for registration. We are in the process of moving away from this but are currently stuck in between. To register now, however, please follow this link. http://nlicc-baseball.dataexpanse.co:8080/register
[9 March 2024] We hope to have our new registration working by the end of the weekend. I will send an email to the registrant list from last year. This site will be retired (probably) at some point after registration is completed. You may find some of the information below and/or linked from this site to be informative, but it is not the official information for this year.

Frequently Asked Questions
All information here is subject to change. As the season develops, better information will be available.
(Q) When will games be held?
(A) All regularly scheduled games take place on Saturdays. Opening Day is planned for 4 May and continue through the end of June. We play 6 regular season games. We have one Saturday of play-offs followed by a Championship Saturday. There is one 'off week' where no games are scheduled (June 8th) to avoid conflicts with our Drama Ministry Play, 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'.
(Q) What are the age brackets for tee ball players, minors players, and majors players?
(A) This varies from year to year. Some years we have 3 divisions (tee ball, minors, and majors) and other years we have needed 4 divisions (tee ball, middies, minors, and majors). See the registration page http://nlicc-baseball.dataexpanse.co:8080/register for the current year's age ranges. Keep in mind that the age ranges can only be finalized after registration completes and we know the distribution of players for the season.
(Q) If I have players in different divisions, how often will games overlap?
(A) Never. It's the magic of the franchise scheduling mechanism that we employ. All of tee ball plays their games at 9:00AM. The early game follows where either your majors or minors team will play. The afternoon games consist of the teams that haven't yet played. So, as an example one Saturday game day, Maroon's tee ball will play at 9:00AM followed by their minor's game in the morning. Their major's game will then be in the afternoon. The way the schedule is generated means that all teams on a franchise play the same franchise on the same day. So, if Maroon is playing Navy on this example Saturday, all three teams will be playing Navy. The only time this rule doesn't apply is during the playoffs and championships.
(Q) What happens if the season starts but then the season is halted due to, as an example, state mandates? Will refunds be given?
(A) No. We run this league at or below cost each year. That is to say, in a typical year, that our registration intake does not fully cover our expenses. Also, almost all expenses are incurred at the front of the season meaning that there is no refundable portion to return. Your registration payment covers shirts and caps for all players and socks for the majors and minors players. It also covers the purchase of the somewhat perishable items like baseballs, bats, line chalk / paint, score books, catchers gear, coaches shirts / caps, etc.
(Q) Should I receive a confirmation email when I register?
(A) Yes. But, I have had some problems with that. So, if you don't receive that confirmation, please email mail me at baseball@nlicc.org so that I can look into the problem. Currently, only the registration email address will receive a notification. The other email address(es) that you provide will be used for notification depending on the context in which the email was provided. For example, a person requiring legal notification will be sent the required notification (although not automatically). 'Other interested party' emails will receive game schedules and updates only. The email will also include a link to your live receipt. The live receipt will indicate that you have paid after payment is verified (this is a manual process).
(Q) Are background checks required for our coaches?
(A) Yes. Additionally, there is training required. For returning coaches, the training that you took in previous years may still be good. You will be informed when you have to retake the training.

[2022-05-11] - REQUIRES ACTION for Forest and Navy Minors. Forest and Navy Minors Families, Forest and Navy Coaches and Navy GM -
With another wet weekend shaping up (including Friday), we would like to pull the Navy @ Forest Minor's game forward one day to Thursday. This has the following consequences, comments, and requests:
The Navy @ Forest Minors game will be held on the old field that has a larger 50/70 (mound/baseline) rather than a 46/60 to which they are accustomed.
Blue @ Maroon Minors game will take place as scheduled on the Minor's field.
Forest Majors will loose both fields for their scheduled practice
We will likely be able to complete Week 1 games (minus middies and tee ball which are typically not made up) prior to what will probably be another make up week.
AC Both has secured umpires and scorers for both games.
For both Navy and Forest minors teams, please contact your GM/Minors Coaches (see below) to let them know that you will or will not be able to make it to the field on Thursday for a 5:30PM game (arrival time target should be 4:45PM for warmups given the extraordinarily heavy traffic on weekdays).

[2022-05-08] - Reworked schedule for Week 1 make up games and Week two Opening Ceremonies plan. Play-offs are still on track for 2022-06-18 with championship day being 2022-06-25. We will have more information regarding post-season schedules in the next couple of weeks. Please download this new schedule and discard older versions.
Please note that, weather permitting, Opening Day Ceremonies will begin at 9:30AM (Week 2, 2022-05-14 - this Saturday).
Please note that on a Rain Day schedule, the Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday for game day occurs after the scheduled date for the game date that is specified. As such, the actual days for the rain day make-ups are:
Monday -> 2022-05-09 (make up for the early majors game)
Tuesday -> 2022-05-10 (make up for the late majors game)
Thursday -> 2022-05-12 (make up for the early minors game)
Friday -> 2022-5-13 (make up for the late minors game)
2022 NLICC Baseball (2022-05-08 Update - corrected) Corrected again at 04:06PM (Week 6 dates corrected)
NOTE:
The terms 'before' and 'after' for the June 11th week games are an indication that they day being reference takes place before or after June 11th. That is to say that we will play the make up Majors games on Thursday (9 June) and Friday (10 June) and the Minors make up games on Monday (13 June) and Tuesday (14 June). We will be able to play the Middies and Tee Ball games on Saturday morning without conflicting with the Whitenacks' wedding.
We have not yet determined how the league picnic fits into the schedule this year. The following scenario is a likely schedule.
Play-off Day
No tee ball or middies games (although we are now considering an approach that would allow for tee ball and middies on Play-off Day.
Tee ball and middies will play on Championship day instead (We may be adding tee ball and middies without regard for other scheduling approaches to make up for games lost to weather events.)
Early Majors/Minors games will be before the picnic. Late Majors/Minors games will be in the afternoon after the picnic.
[2022-05-07] - Opening Day Cancellation Notice
Coaches and Families -
As I am sure that many of you have suspected, Opening Ceremonies and all games are being postponed. I am doing this based on last nights field conditions (see explanation in post script). Surprisingly, the field remained very firm throughout the infield not withstanding the standing water in low lying areas on both fields. (I attribute this to Coach McDaniel's commitment to field care during the preseason.) Despite the cancellation, I am heading to the field to take some comparison photos that I will share later. We had very little rain after 10:30PM last night and it will be interesting to share how quickly (or not) that the fields can recover to playable conditions after a rainy night.
The make up schedule will be posted this afternoon.
P.S.
The rationale for cancelling the whole day at this point runs contrary to my normal approach. However, my chrome book that I keep at the field is no longer in support (meaning I cannot log into the tool suite that I have built over the years). I was planning on using draft emails created from the computer but sent from my phone. However, our email provider is no longer syncing draft emails to my phone. This puts me in a situation where I have to make the call before I am out of comms range (at home). I am working on a solution to this problem.

Hello NLICC baseball families!
Bring your baseball gear to trade on April 16th under the Pavilion between the ball fields at NLICC. Swap your outgrown baseball gear: pants, belts, cleats, gloves, bats, batting gloves etc. for something that fits! Trading will start at 9am and go until 5pm. Even if you have nothing to trade, come anyway and see what others are giving away! Hope to see you there!

[2022-04-01] CLICK HERE to see the results of the league draft. You will find your assigned franchise. Which division you child will be determined in the next couple of weeks. This typically only applies to those in a boundary circumstance. Parents can work with their coaches and GMs if their is a special need for placement. The schedule for tomorrows first practice is in the previous announcement just below. I would ask that coaches plan to be on site at least 15 minutes prior to practice to meet with the coaching staff from the previous practice to pick up tips and tricks as we enter our first season with 4 divisions. Also note that I am still building the Forest coaching staff. If there are any dads on the Forest franchise who have toyed with the idea of coaching, please let me know. I will be sending out contact lists to GMs / Coaches late this evening. Do not expect an email from a coach or a GM prior to tomorrow's practice.
[2022-03-31] A draft of league formation has been completed. GMs have received a copy for review and comment. I have also sent emails to families (or talked to a few) who were not able to secure slots on their first or second choice franchise. I was able to minimize the number of families affected, but not eliminate the issue. If all goes well, I will have a notification out to families this evening and contact information to GMs and coaches. We are planning for a lovely (but cool) day on Saturday for our first practices. It will mostly be introductions and light work, particularly for the younger ages, but please come ready to toss the ball around (glove, cap, appropriate shoes, and a jacket if necessary). The practice times will be:
9:00AM-11:00AM for Maroon
11:00AM-1:00PM for Navy
1:00PM-3:00PM for Blue
3:00PM-5:00PM for Forest
[2022-03-28] Please read carefully.
The outcome of Saturday's ad hoc / emergency coaches meeting included the decision to adopt a 4 division league effective immediately.
We are now targeting this Saturday, 2 April for our first practices.
The league will now have a maximum capacity of 176 players and be broken down in the following manner.
Tee Ball
Generally, the youngest 2-3 years of the league (3-5 year old players)
Tee only
8 player teams
Middies
Generally, the next 3 years of the league ((overlapping) 5-8 year old players)
Machine pitch with option for tee with approval for special circumstances
10 player teams
Minors
Generally, the next 3 years of the league ((overlapping) 8-11 year old players)
reduced to 12-13 player teams
Majors
Generally, the next 3 years of the league ((overlapping) 11-13 (as of January 1st) year old players)
reduced to 12-13 player teams
Practice schedule changes
Saturdays
Each franchise will have a two hour block. *All* of their teams will practice during this time as defined by the franchise GM. This will end the dreaded early tee ball / late practice problem for families with players in multiple divisions.
9:00AM (tentatively, may be 9:30AM)
Maroon
11:00AM (tentatively, may be 11:30AM)
Navy
1:00PM (tentatively, may be 1:30PM)
Blue
3:00PM (tentatively, may be 3:30PM)
Forest
Weekdays
Majors / Minors only
I will update the schedule at the bottom of this page with more detail.
Forming the league continues to be a monumental task.
We have always tried to accommodate *all* special requests, however, the official manner in which priorities are assessed are:
Previous year's players return to their existing franchise
Previous year's players' siblings are placed on the same franchise as their older siblings who were in the league the prior year
A returning family that took a year off may have a slight advantage over a new families, but generally are considered new to the league for draft purposes.
Previous year's players moving to a new franchise
New players
At this point special requests are evaluated
Current difficulties:
Blue has 42 players from families returning from last year
There are a maximum 2 slots to be allocated before they reach maximum capacity
29 players will need to be moved to an alternate franchise
Maroon has 35 players from families returning from last year
There are a maximum 9 slots to be allocated before they reach maximum capacity
There are more than 9 players that have selected Blue as their first choice and Maroon as their second
For the first time in league history, a large number of families will not get their first or second choice.
If you selected a first and second choice franchise because 'No Preference' was not an option, please text or email so that I can take that into account.
[2022-03-24] Our first practice is being pushed back to Monday when Navy will have their first practice. I still do not have a solution for getting everyone assigned to franchises. However, we started moving in the direction of a 4 division league to accommodate our numbers and various requests. This will *not* add availability but will accommodate the number of slots that we already have in our wait list (approximately 174 players). I need some time to coordinate a meeting with GMs and coaches to discuss this change. It may also give us the chance to resolve some longstanding inconsistencies with our franchise model (like the amount of time between a Saturday morning tee ball practice and the franchise practice time. We are also looking at a solution that maintains the number of innings that a player plays without significantly adding to the practice schedule or game day schedule. Stay tuned. There is a lot going on behind the scenes to make this happen. Prayer is always a good way to help us.
[2022-03-21] I will be at the church again tonight from 7:00PM - 8:00PM (or maybe a little latter) for shirt sizing. If you have not been sized or sent me your sizes (not recommended for those who are new to the league as our sizes may vary from you normal sizes), please try to make this evening. I will need to have this wrapped up this week. If you cannot make this evening, please text me (see email) and we can arrange a time.
[2022-03-18] Shirt sizing time tonight from 6:00PM - ? I will be at the church working with Tom Worman to did trenches for power and drainage for dugouts and batting cage this evening. So, if you want to stop by for sizing, I can sneak you in. Also, if there are people who signed up for a franchise because 'No Preference' was not an option, can you let me know. I am trying to make franchise alignments work out and could use some added flexibility.
[2022-03-17] I will be at the church today from 2:30PM to 3:30PM and, if needed, from 5:00PM to 5:30PM for shirt/cap/sock sizing. Sorry for the late notice. Please text me (see notification email) if you need me to be there between 5:00PM and 5:30PM. I think that I may also be able to make it in tomorrow evening. Watch this page's Announcements section for updated information.
[2022-03-14] An informational email has been sent today. If you do not have baseball@nlicc.org in your contact list, it will likely be in your SPAM folder or just won't show up at all. Here is the text.

Dear <Submitter> -
Sorry for the resend. I also wanted to state that our target first practice will be on Saturday, 26 March at the designated time which depends on your franchise assignment (although all tee ball is planned for 9:00AM). Detailed schedule info can be found on the registration page. Just a quick note to catch everyone up. I am in the midst of league formation. That is to say, I am aligning franchises and teams to seek balance in age and coaching while following the league guidelines that favor returning players, then their siblings, then returning league families needing to move franchises, and then new to the league families. I also consider the special requests that have been made with regard to specific practice day requirements and/or a desire to be on the same franchise/team with friends or nearby families for carpooling convenience. This is taking time given that the first choice franchise numbers are 69/19/56/25 for franchises that can hold a maximum of 42 players. Notwithstanding, it may be that I have a draft complete for GM review sometime in the late hours tonight or the early hours tomorrow.Additionally, I need to complete shirt, cap, and sock sizing this week for all players and coaches. I will be spending a good portion of the day today at the church working on both baseball organization and other deacon related items. I intend on being at the church from 6:00PM-7:00PM tonight solely for the purpose of sizing. I am not sure what other days I will be there but am currently considering Thursday and Friday morning as one other evening. If you need to contact me, please text me at (540) 709-7133.
