Aqabah Karate
Aqabah Karate is a martial arts institute that is affiliated with Dar Us Salaam, a Muslim community organization that serves the DC-Metro area. Aqabah Karate provides classes for children and adults of both genders in various styles of martial arts, such as Tang Soo Do, a Korean art that emphasizes striking and kicking; Brazilian Jujitsu, a grappling art that focuses on submissions and ground fighting; and Budokan, a Japanese art that combines karate, judo, aikido, and kendo. Aqabah Karate aims to help its students develop physical strength, mental discipline, and spiritual awareness, following the prophetic guidelines of Islam that encourage believers to be strong and healthy. Aqabah Karate also participates in regional and national tournaments, where it has won many awards and recognition for its outstanding performance and sportsmanship.
Aqabah Karate is more than just a martial arts school; it is a family that fosters brotherhood, sisterhood, and community service.
Styles Taught at Aqabah
Tang Soo Do (Korean system of Karate)
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (focused on self-defense and ground fighting)
Budokon (a movement system influenced by stretch postures, animal movements, grappling and stand-up fighting. Great for conditioning, and flexibility)

He teaches boys and mens classes. He is a 4th degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a blue belt in Budokon.
Professor Kym Sturdivant
Professor Kym Sturdivant
He is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he teaches the mens Jiu Jitsu classes.
Ayesha Akhtar
Ayesha Akhtar
She is a 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. She started her training at Aqabah Karate and is among the first group of women who earned their black belts at this institute. Today she is the lead instructor for girls and women at Aqabah.
Maryam Muhib
Maryam Muhib
She is a first degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. She started training at Aqabah when she was 5 years old. Alhamdulillah, she earned her black belt at Aqabah and today she regularly instructs girls and women's classes.
Janaan Siddiqui
Janaan Siddiqui
She is a current advanced level student who regularly assists with teaching classes. She looks forward to earning her black belt in Tang Soo Do.
