Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I still take courses at DCIT?

A: Yes! We encourage students to take the CNA/Medical Assistant program if they are interested.

Do you offer AP/Dual Credit courses at Lamar High?

A: Yes! The first three Biomedical courses are dual credit. There are many biomed students currently taking AP and/or dual credit courses. We recommend our magnet students to take AP/dual credit courses.

How does the program work?

A: Our program allows students to enroll in one biomedical course each year. These courses are designed to provide students a hands-on real-world approach to learn about various biomedical fields/careers such as medicine, bioengineering, forensic science, genetics, and many more.

How do I apply to this program?

A: Keep an eye out for the Darlington County Magnet Application. This is normally posted to the district website in January. We will add a link here once it is posted! Any rising 8th grader may apply. We have also prepared a special pathway for any rising 9th graders to join pending seat availability.

What careers does this program help prepare me for?

A: Any career relating to the biomedical field. Some examples are any medical career such as physician/surgeon, nurse, physical therapist, dentist, radiologist, OBGYN, etc., geneticist, veterinarian, paramedic, forensic scientist, lab researcher, pharmacist, bioengineer, marine biologist, science teacher/professor, science artist, medical examiner, histopathologist, and so many more...
