Overview
Life Sciences is a year- long class that will focus on the completion of IEP goals and assignments encompassing daily living and employment skills.
Goals
Following instruction, students will demonstrate their knowledge of post-secondary opportunities, independent living, and community participation.
Requirements
- Students are required to follow all class rules, HHS rules, and the DCSD rules.
- Students may not miss more than ten days during the entire school year. Missing more than ten days will result in grade level retention. Seniors who miss more than the allowable days will not be permitted to walk in graduation.
Grading Procedures
- Students will be graded by a total point system in the following areas:
- Participation in class activities, following school and classroom rules
- Bringing required materials to class: pens, pencils, paper
- Completion of classwork assignments
- Completion of quizzes and tests
- Completion of projects
- Absent students have five days to complete missed assignments. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for and complete missing work by the five-day deadline.

A: 90-100 B: 80-89 C: 79-70 D: 69-60 F: 59 and below
Classroom Management Guidelines
- Respect ALL teachers, students and property. Appropriate language is required at all times!
- Students will be counted tardy if they are not in the room at the sound of the tardy bell.
- Students are to wear HHS IDs and lanyards at all times and comply with the dress code policy.
- Unless permitted by the teacher, all phones and electronic devices must be placed in book bags or purses. They must be OFF and OUT of SIGHT!
- No food, drinks or gum are allowed in the classroom unless provided by the teacher.
- Come prepared to work for the whole class period; bring all necessary materials.
- NO LAYING HEADS ON ARMS OR DESKTOPS. NO SLEEPING!!!
Special Routines
Students will have the opportunity to earn the privilege of thirty minutes of “me time” weekly. They will be allowed to draw, read personal literature, chat with a friend, surf the net, or play a game. In order to earn this privilege, students must have a passing grade for the week, as well as, satisfactory reports from any general education teachers. Failing grades or negative teacher reports will eliminate students from “me time”.
Parent Communication
- Communication with parents will be made by telephone, email, conferences, progress reports and letters. Parents are free to call anytime of the day.
- Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact Mrs. Bracy weekly to get feedback on grades and progress.
