Approved Activities

Approved community service activities are listed below.  Students participating in community service activities not listed below must have their activities approved by submitting the request form to and waiting approval from the ECHP Coordinator PRIOR to completing the activity.

Volunteer for Mother/Son Dance

This year's Mother/Son Dance will be held on Thursday, May 2 at the Recreation Department Gym located at 300 Sanders Street in Darlington.  If you are interested in volunteering, you will need to be at the gym by 5:30 PM to help set up.  The dance will end at 8:30.  


Volunteer for the Athletic Department 

Our Athletic Director, Coach Norris, has community service opportunities for students who are not required to complete activities for their sports team.  


 Darlington Humane Society

You are allowed to volunteer with the Darlington Humane Society (with parent/guardian approval) at any time. Simply have a Humane Society employee sign your service log and provide a contact number. 

 Purple Fish Coffee Company

You are allowed to volunteer at the Purple Fish Coffee Company shop (with parent/guardian approval) on Friday after school.  The shop is open until 9:00 PM on Friday.  Purple Fish Coffee Company is located at 110 W. Hampton Street in Darlington.  You will need to go to the shop to complete paperwork and for additional information.  Make sure to have a Purple Fish Coffee Company employee sign your service log and provide a contact number after you volunteer

Campus Cleanup during We Work Wednesdays

If you are not required to go to a class during We Work Wednesdays, you can volunteer to clean up around the Academy, student parking lot, and main campus.  See Ms. Longo in room 310 for details.

DHS Faculty or Staff Helper

You are allowed to help faculty and staff at DHS who need assistance as long as you are not required to complete the activity for any other organization or club and you are not being paid. All you need to do is have the faculty or staff member sign your service log. 

Darlington County Library

You are allowed to volunteer with the Darlington Library (with parent/guardian approval and Darlington County Library approval) . Simply have one of the employees sign your service log and provide a contact number. 

Tutoring Opportunities during We Work Wednesdays

If you are not required to go back to your class on We Work Wednesdays, you may volunteer to tutor other students in a subject/course.  You will need to contact a teacher in the subject you wish to serve as a tutor for permission and details. 

MacBook Orientation and Technology Assistance August 8-11- (This opportunity has ended, but you can still ask Mrs. Matthews if she needs help in the media center.)

Mrs. Matthews needs help with MacBook Orientation and Technology Assistance August 8-11 from 8:30-10:30 and 12:45-2:45. If you would like to help with this during your ONLINE college course or early dismissal periods, please see Ms. Matthews in the Media Center IN ADVANCE.  If she asks you to help, ask her to notify your online course facilitator so that you are not marked absent.  Please note that only three students can assist at a time.  

Volunteer for Father/Daughter Dance- (This opportunity has ended)

This year's Father/Daughter Dance will be held on February 8 at the Recreation Department Gym located at 300 Sanders Street in Darlington.  If you are interested in volunteering, you will need to be at the gym by 5:30 PM to help set up.  The dance will end at 8:30.  You can earn three hours of community service for this event. 


Tina Hathcock Chicken Bog Benefit- (This opportunity has ended)

This benefit will be held on January 25 from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.  Although you cannot miss school to participate, you can volunteer to help after school.  If you are interested in volunteering for this community service activity, contact Tammy Norton at 843-687-6479.


Color Run at Pate Elementary School- (This opportunity has ended)


There will be a Color Run on November 18 at Pate Elementary School from 10:30 AM-12:00 PM.  Volunteers will help spray color on participants as they run/walk the path or help in other areas where needed.  If you are interested, please contact Mr. Patrick Williamson at patrick.williamson@darlington.k12.sc.us


Community Food Drive- (This opportunity has ended)

Darlington High is sponsoring a food drive and delivery for the holiday season.  Help is needed with packing food boxes for people in the community.  Volunteers will need to be in DHS gym by 8:30 AM on December 9 to pack boxes.  

If you cannot pack food boxes, you can bring in nonperishable food items or a donation for community service.  Here's how it will work:

Bring $10 OR 10 canned meat, meaty pasta, or meaty soup items to earn 1 hour of community service. Of course, you can donate as much as you want, but you can only earn up to 3 hours for ECHP community service requirements. 

Fall Festival at St. John's Elementary (This opportunity has ended.)

St. John's Elementary School is having a Fall Festival on Thursday, October 19 from 5-7 PM.  If you are interested in volunteering to help at the Fall Festival, please let me know by Wednesday, October 11.

ECHP Parking Space Clean Up and Parking Space Preparation- (This opportunity has ended.)

One or more student volunteers are needed to paint parking spaces black, clean area, and prepare for parking space painting.  This can be done after school according to your schedule, but must be finished by September 1. Please contact Ms. Ward in room 309 if you are interested.
