DCSD New Elementary School Construction

Darlington County voters overwhelmingly passed a one-cent sales tax and a $60 million bond referendum in November 2016 to allow the Darlington County School District to build three new schools - one each in Darlington, Hartsville and Lamar. The new schools will consolidate two existing elementary schools in the respective areas, creating unified populations of grades K-5. All three schools are scheduled to open in the fall of 2020.

The name of the new Darlington school will be J.L. Cain Elementary School, as voted on by the public and the Board. The school color will be blue, and the mascot will be the Tiger.

The name of the new Hartsville school will be Bay Road Elementary School. The school color will be blue, and the mascot will be the Fox.

The name of the new Lamar school will be Lamar-Spaulding Elementary School. The school color will be blue, and the mascot will be the Fox.

The names, colors and mascots of all three schools are the results of the deliberations of multiple committees, public input surveys and consideration by the Board. All final decisions are made by the Board. Click on each area below or the menu in the top right, and you will find regular updates of the progress being made on each of the new schools.
