DCSD New Elementary School Construction

Darlington County voters overwhelmingly passed a one-cent sales tax and a $60 million bond referendum in November 2016 to allow the Darlington County School District to build three new schools - one each in Darlington, Hartsville and Lamar. The new schools will consolidate two existing elementary schools in the respective areas, creating unified populations of grades K-5. All three schools are scheduled to open in the fall of 2020.

The name of the new Darlington school will be J.L. Cain Elementary School, as voted on by the public and the Board. The mascot will be the Tiger.

Names, colors and mascots of the two schools in Hartsville and Lamar have not yet been decided by the Darlington County Board of Education. Those processes include the formation of multiple committees, public input surveys and deliberation by the Board. All final decisions will be made by the Board.
