Connecticut’s Seal of Biliteracy was signed into law in 2017 to recognize public high school graduates who have attained a level of proficiency in English and one or more other languages. Expanding its reach each year, over 3,000 students studying 38 languages in 58 districts earned the Seal during the 2020-21 school year. The Seal recognizes the value of students' academic efforts, the tangible benefits of being bilingual and biliterate, and prepares students to be 21st-century global citizens in a multicultural, multilingual world. Darien High School began awarding the SOBL in 2018, making us one of the first school districts in the State of Connecticut to adopt the program.
We welcome and encourage all heritage speakers to work towards earning the Seal of Biliteracy beginning in their Sophomore year.
Congratulations to the Darien High School Class of 2024!
143 members of the Class of 2024 will earn the Seal of Biliteracy at graduation, representing 43% of graduates. This is the highest number of Seal of Biliteracy earners our program has had since the program's inception in 2017, and among the highest percentage of Seal earners in the State of Connecticut.
