Darfield High School (DHS) sees subjects taken through distance learning as a valuable extension of its curriculum. It provides students with an excellent opportunity for self-directed study.
DHS students have access to two different distance learning providers: NetNZ and Te Kura. Both providers offer a range of courses from pre-NCEA to Level 3 courses. For a full list of courses, refer to the websites beside.
Students joining a distance learning course will have study periods embedded in their DHS timetables. Students need to have shown the ability to be self-motivated and have commitment to their studies. If the course is provided by NetNZ, students will also need to attend a one hour online lesson every week. The timing of this lesson is determined by the provider and may not align with the student’s DHS timetable. Work completion will be regularly monitored and non-completion of the work may result in losing the privilege to be part of the programme.
Course costs will vary depending on the course.
If you are considering a course via distance learning, it is advised that you speak to the careers advisor, your dean, or the distance learning dean (Mrs Heidi Clark hc@darfield.school.nz) before selecting it on the portal.
