Open House
Agenda:
1. Overview: My core reading classes will be studying through several novels this year that will incorporate key social studies and language arts standards. Students work independently, in learning teams, and whole class discussions throughout the week. Each novel, students will be doing vocabulary lessons, discussion questions, chapter quizzes and end-of-book tests. (go to milkweed book.)
2. Homework- Reading for at least 30 minutes. Also, students will either have vocabulary or studies weekly.
3. Curriculum- I've composed a list of some common skills found in the 5th grade curriculum
Summarizing, identifying theme, opinions, main idea, identifying words in context, inferences, point of view, using textual evidence to support your answers, figurative language, compare/contrast.

*Read with your child.
