RDS

What is it?

The RDS stands for "Residency Determination Service." Everyone must fill out the RDS in order to apply to a North Carolina system school or community college. After filling out the RDS, you will receive a Residency Certification Number (RCN) that is used to verify that you are a North Carolina resident.

If you have lived in North Carolina for less than a year or do not have a Social Security Number, you still must complete the RDS; however, you will be deemed as "out-of-state."
