Parents: On this page you will find links to websites that allow students to explore their creativity digitally, plus links to great family art-at-home ideas from other creative parents and teachers. Some of the ideas require computer access and some require art materials. Some are opportunities for messy outdoor fun and some are good for indoor family fun. Take some time to explore with your children and look for ways to create together! Adapt the lessons to fit the materials you have at hand. Remember, there is no "right" way to make art as long as children have the chance to create!
Students: Please ask your parents for permission before exploring the links or making any messy artwork! Don't forget to gather your materials and prepare your work space once you have permission to make art!
Here are some really fun drawing exercises to improve your drawing skills. I really like it that she show these being done in a drawing app on her tablet. If you have a drawing app like Drawing Desk or Drawing Box on your tablet or phone, you could practice these on your digital canvas. If you don't have access to these devices or apps <<<NEVER FEAR>>> all of the exercises can also be done with pen or pencil on paper! Watch and practice along as she shows you 12 exercises you can complete to improve your overall drawing skills!
This guy is so much fun and makes drawing easy to practice! Plus, he's got a brilliant British accent! Watch him first and then watch again and practice along. He has a whole series of drawing videos to explore, but here is one to get you started.
Wanna kick it REALLY old school? This is the TV Series that inspired Mrs. O to draw every day when she was a kid. It's old and cheesy, but you can't deny that Commander Mark has some cool ideas and tricks for drawing 3-D objects easily. My favorite quote from Commander Mark? "Draw, draw draw! Practice your drawing at least 30 minutes per day!" I loved the end of each show when he added more to his giant, bulletin board sized Secret City drawing using the objects he taught about in that episode. Take a look!
