FAQ's
Welcome- your child has a desire to be part of the ski club- which is a club designed to enjoy the outdoors during the winter months whether it's to ski or snowboard.
Ski club has been around for years in the district and Vella and I have been doing this together for the last almost 20 years-
Why do I need to have a parent meeting?
In order for your child to be part of the club, we need a commitment and involvement from parents
-understanding of the club and agreeing to terms and rules
- parent involvement when signing up for trips and paying bus fee
- skiing is a costly sport- parent commitment to paying with exact CASH on any trips needed.(some trips you will be able to pay with credit card- will explain soon)
- commitment of getting kids to and from the bus ON TIME- @MIDDLE SCHOOL
- Commitment to looking at webpage, REMIND app, and google classroom for all impt information. Ticket prices, bus times, etc.
- involvement in making sure your child is prepared with everything they will need
- involvement and understanding of RISKS that may occur while participating in the club(liability form)
WHAT DOES THE DAY OF A TRIP LOOK LIKE?
Wake early, load bus, board bus, travel to resort, ski/board on your own with buddies, board bus by designated time, travel to return home
HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR A TRIP?
A google form will be posted in the classroom for students to complete. It will also be posted on the WEBPAGE for parents outside of the school network to submit. FORM WILL HAVE A DUE DATE-Once the form is live, it is a first come first serve list. Once you commit to a trip you are responsible for the bus fee($30/seat each trip you attend) look at your calendars make sure you have no other commitments before signing up, we will not refund your bus money for any “I forgot I had to’s” we rely on your response and payment to use this to cancel or move forward with a trip. Once you fill out and submit the form you will pay for your seat by placing the money in an envelope with your name on it and hand it into your assigned advisor(kitka- MS vella-HS) DO NOT HAND IT IN TO THE OFFICE!!
WHY $30?
The club members pay to cover the cost of the bus( just like any other bus trip) we ride on coach buses- due to the fact that we need storage space for gear. Plus its much nicer to travel long distance in comfort. Each trip the attending members will all pay the bus fee of $30/seat.
DO I HAVE TO RIDE THE BUS?
An ABSOLUTE YES! All students making the trip and getting the group discount MUST ride the bus. You may not ride with parents or drive yourself. I will not allow discounts to be handed out and you not support the club. We rely on involvement to keep this going. I’m doing you a favor by saving some money, so do the rest of the club members a favor by supporting them.
CAN MY PARENTS RIDE THE BUS? Yes, we welcome parents to ride as long as there are open seats and they are not taking a seat away from the students.
TICKETS-
The process of ordering tickets will be different for each resort. MONTAGE you will purchase your own tickets, ELK mtn- I will order them(there will be a specific google form for this trip) and any other resort as we learn how they are handling ticket sales this year we will post the “how to’s” FOR THE ELK TRIP you will pay me ON THE BUS the DAY OF THE TRIP!! Exact cash- if you owe $62 dollars for lift you NEED $62. Not $70 and expect change. You will NOT get it.
CAN MY PARENTS SKI TOO? Yes! When ordering tickets please include the total number of tickets, rentals etc. you will need. Parents/families are welcome and also receive the group rate.
MONTAGE TICKETS- once you are a club member( papers are returned and the $20 dues is paid to Mrs. Kitka she will get you a login and password to register at Montage. If you log in correctly- you should be able to order tickets immediately upon logging in.
RFID cards- you can use from last year if you have one.
( In addition you may use the club discount at any time NOT just on club trip dates. HOWEVER, if we are going to MONTAGE and you are too, and you are using the club discount, your child MUST be on the bus- or I will cut your privileges of group rates. This is not fair to the club members, period.)
WHEN DO I EAT?
When you’re hungry! Pack food to eat or buy there(small fortune)
Lodges are open to the public and you can leave your belongings in a locker or a corner and come and go as you please.
WHO DO I SKI WITH?
Always ski with a buddy!! Parents its time to cut the leash- and release these kids out into the wild! Groups of kids go out and have a blast all day! Occasionally I will run into them on the slopes but I DO NOT ski with them. If you are not ok with this then this club is probably not for you.
WHAT IF I’VE NEVER SKIED BEFORE?
It's ok. What better time to learn something new than now?!? ALL BEGINNERS MUST TAKE A LESSON!! In fact anyone can take a lesson, but if they have never skied before, people in my club MUST take lessons, you cannot learn from a friend who has only been out 1 or 2 times themselves. Take a lesson together!!
DO I NEED MY OWN EQUIPMENT?
No, ski resorts rent equipment- skis/boards, boots, poles, helmets do not go out and buy your own!
What about snow clothes?
YES! you ‘ll need your own, warm dry wicking wool socks, waterproof gloves, thin skull cap type of hat for under helmet, neck gaiters, pants, and jacket.
EVERYONE MUST WEAR A HELMET!!
I CAN’T FIND MY….
Please label everything!! Use luggage tags on ski bags or simply use duck tape and write your name on it. Write your name on the tag of your jacket or pants, gloves, helmets etc…you wouldn’t believe the stuff I bring home that is left behind and never claimed…if it has a name on it we’ll know!
STUDENTS- LISTEN UP, THIS IS FOR YOU!!
LISTEN TO MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS AND PAY ATTENTION TO POSTS IN THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM! JOIN THE REMIND APP, LOOK AT THE WEBPAGE- all information will be posted there.
DO NOT HAND ANY BUS MONEY OR ANY FORMS INTO THE SECRETARIES IN THE OFFICE!! ALL FORMS GO DIRECTLY TO KITKA OR TO VELLA!!!!
WHAT DO I DO NOW?
An EMERGENCY and LIABILITY form must be on file. You can print the forms at home(posted in classroom and on webpage) or you can get them from KITKA. Please complete and sign and hand them into your advisor along with $20 dues(exact cash)- once done you are an official member of the club. Listen for updates and upcoming trips
