About me
Hello! My name is Ms. Johnson. As of the 2022-23 school year, I am Danville Elementary's School Social Worker. I provide counseling services to the elementary students. This includes universal classroom instruction available to all Danville Elementary students, as well as small group and individual counseling services with parent permission. I also facilitate the Kindness Club - an initiative designed to teach different facets of kindness, improve school climate, and help students feel welcome.
As the district's Homeless Liaison, I work with students and families experiencing homelessness (as defined by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act) to reduce barriers to accessing quality education.
I specialized in School Social Work at St. Ambrose University. In addition to social work, I have experience in environmental education and children's ministry. I have many interests - learning about the brain (especially regarding trauma), nervous system repair, art, and all things outdoors. My 6 year old daughter Cora will attend first grade for the 2024-25 year, and my youngest daughter will start 3 year old preschool - both here at Danville. My eldest daughter is currently starting college at Morehead State University in eastern Kentucky, studying psychology.

Social Emotional Behavior and Mental Health (SEBH) Resources
I will be visiting classrooms for whole-group social-emotional instruction and/or support, facilitating small groups and individual sessions for students needing more intensive instruction. Groups will typically run 8-12 weeks, after which time I will review data to determine if a student needs more or less services. I will be contacting guardians directly for permission to see students in regular sessions with the goal of transparency and working together to best support your child's needs. I utilize surveys - both student self-assessments and teacher surveys - as well as the data from the SAEBRS screener to assess progress.
We provide a safe space for your child. As per ethical social work practices, what is discussed in session will remain confidential unless the following applies:
1) There is concern for harm to self
2) There is concern for harm to others
3) The student is being harmed by others.
The exception to this is if your child chooses to share information!
